Anyone fitted T6.1 Alpine 'Plug & Play' speakers?

Ive just spent an hour fitting the first door speaker & found that I have a large lump of very dense foam fitted to the door card already - presumably for sound deadening.View attachment 104925

I believe these are the door clips are they the same as the ones in the A-pillar trim? this is spare one I purchase and I inadvertly squeezed it now to you get it to release ?

You can buy a pack of 20 of those on ebay if its broke, About 6 quid

I took the factory stuff off (wasn't amazingly well stuck on anyway so quite easy) and used the roll of Dodo Mat SQ I put a link to above https://vwcaliforniaclub.com/threads/anyone-fitted-t6-1-alpine-plug-play-speakers.40908/post-698077

Was £32 for a 50cm x 2m roll and I think I used about two thirds of it. Could probably have used (and maybe will do) the bit I have left to put some in the corners of the doors nearest the mirrors.

Been out for a drive this afternoon and properly cranked up the tunes, absolutely no rattle or buzz from the doors / speakers and with the music off, seemed quieter too.

I just reached out to Dodomat and they have advised the SQ sound deadening should be fixed on the door and not the door card the only reason I mentioned this was because I saw this on the box -or have I got something different ?

I guess they say that generally for most applications anywhere else in a vehicle, you would put it on metal.

On the T6.1, there is very little interior metal work on the doors, the outer skin is obviously metal but you can't really get to that unless you remove the inner plastic panel with all the electric window stuff attached to it (there's some pics earlier in this thread). Personally, I wouldn't try that and I'm not sure putting stuff inside the door would have much effect anyway and possibly obstruct the window mechanism.

I've seen pics of T5 and T6's (which do have an metal inner door panel) with deadening on and I thought about putting some on the plastic panel, but again I'd worry because of all the stuff attached to it, wires etc. Once I got the door cards off and saw the only stuff VW had fitted themselves was to the cards, that seemed the logical option, and looking at other pics in this thread, that seems to be what others have done.

Dodo actually sell a very similar product as part of a kit where they say apply the roll to the doors and extra foam panels to the doors behind the speakers. I'm no expert, but in terms of sound deadening, you attach it to anything that potentially vibrates. All the stuff I've seen and read online shows insulation attached door cards as well as the doors themselves too.

It's worked for me anyway, and was by far the easiest and less messy option. As I've got some left over, I might put a bit on the metal door just behind where the speakers are (which you can get to when you take them out), but I'd be careful as it might interfere with the window going up and down.

So this is how I've fitted the dodo mat sound proofing. Removed door card and unbolted metal skin. Held it in place at the top with a longer bolt. The window regulator has to come off otherwise and that looked like a pain to me. Working from the bottom and scraping my arms alot I stick the sound proof to the door skin in strips. Was difficult but doable. Get mainly behind the speaker too. Tapping the door externally compared to the other side that I need to wrestle with still, there s a notable difference. The tinny noise is gone to be replaced by a more notable thud.

It there a knack to getting the door trim clips to clip in I did purchase replacements ( and managed to break most of them) they just dont seem to clip back in - on previous other models a gently thump as all that was needed - if you do that with these they break

Yeah I was lucky I think - most of mine popped closed as I took them out and open as I put them back in. Had a couple which stuck open, logically you should be able to pull the two discs at the bottom apart repeating the action of the door panel coming away when you pry it.

I couldn't get it to work at all and in the end I managed to reset them with a small screwdriver forcing the little tabs open a bit, I did break one though.

I won’t invest in Alpine speakers as my hearing probably won’t appreciate the upgrade. Too many very loud gigs throughout my life!
Would love to listen to the system though. Anybody going to Camperjam with the Alpine speakers fitted?

those clips,how sh1t are they. only thing i noted is they have to start off in a closed position and when you bang them in they open out like a rawl plug. if they are already open they are impossible to reset and break apart when you try knock them in

Put a shear (? kniptang) between the movable part (big round) and the 3rd smaller round. Don't cut, but pry the big round back in place. That is how I do it, and 99% of the time, it works. Just make sure the 4 tabs get under the little white head.

Not Alpine but I had my T6.1 speakers replaced by Feelart speakers. Recommended by Campervan Conversion Specialists in Letchworth .. run by Ian who used to work at pdubz

There is a massive improvement. So much clearer, greatly extended range and decent bass too. Conversation listening is transformed. Only downside is no fancy tweeter grill.

Van seems quieter too with the sound deadening and dodomat installation. Door also feels a bit more “substantial”, more of “thunk” when closing.

A great update. Thank you. I’m interested to see where the sound deadening has been placed. I didn’t use sounded deadening when I fitted the Alpine T6.1 speaker upgrade ( not the sub) and am coming around to regretting not doing so. I had my arm out of the van window the other day and my fingers came to rest to the external door panel and it was fizzing away to the music. Thanks again Phil

Yes they are stupid clips - you can't bang them like normal clips I managed it with think screwdriver to guide the clip into the hold on the door before pushing the panel home

The standard one in my 6.1 is terrible, the n/s door speaker already distorts, have asked Oli at Bognor Vans to fit this kit as it’s there now, will report back

Just done mine fitted my self i would say 80% plug and play! Took about 2.5 hours 1.5 to fit and 1 to to keep going back to you tube.
Sound is a great improvement can hear voices now!
£280 is it worth it, yes and you get some nice shinny bits
