Best insurer for a T6 Cali Beach

I told them i use it for business use / euro holiday use - i didnt bother telling them i use a camper for camping tho - i assume they know that
You'd like to think so, but that wasn't the reaction I had when ringing round for insurance on our Caravelle when I was telling them about my modifications - conversation went along the lines: -
"...converted the front seat to swivel, with a safe, and also a leisure battery"
"Leisure battery, what's that for"
"To supply the electric cool box and lights when we are camping."
"Do you mean you camp in the vehicle."
"Yes the back seat converts to a bed."
"You should have said that earlier; we can't insure you if you sleep in it."
"But you've quoted me on the vehicle and it has a standard back seat which is advertised as converting to a double bed, so surely that was always a possibility."
"Sorry, we don't have that information, but now you've told me you sleep in it I can't continue with the policy - we don't insure motor homes."

I just don't want to risk some jobsworth finding a reason not to pay out should we ever need to claim.

Collecting new beach 11th march and been passed all over the place on getting insurance. C&cc no as not a motorhome. A plan no. Passed to their specialists who only got one reasonsble quote but they wanted tracker fitting. Adrian flux quoted originally. I need to read their terms. Admiral really helpful but policy terms beware. Not new for old in first year. Nor were direct line. Neither covered fuel mistake. Never happened but will have one diesel cali and one petrol car so you never know. So far despite higher cost Lv seems best cover including new for old 12 months. Also they cover fitted stereo sat nav etc without limit whereas cheaper ones covered up to 1250. No good if you have the top spec or mid spec and added media app connect etc. Lv also transport you home not just within 30 miles. I have never read the policy wording so carefully before. So as much as it pains me to pay more i will go with Lv unless i find a better offer in 3 weeks. I will look at gap products in subsequent years to get new for old after 12 months. Ps will be main car doing 15k including holidays. C 500 a year price comp with added products after full Ncd. Its only 100 more than my car worth 20% of the beach.

If you're worried about a fuel mix up there are devices that fit in the fill point to prevent that happening. I think one is sold in the forum shop.

I've just arranged insurance for my Beach, including:
Up to 365 days per year within the EU; I will need to check about Norway and Switzerland.
£5000 personal belongings + £2000 for awnings
£1000 medical expenses
£10,000 personal accident
£350 compulsory and £50 voluntary excess
Home address Inner London (makes a big difference even if overseas for 365 days!)
Premium £444.72 with Club Care Insurance

i just had price from club care and they seem competitive, more than admiral, less than LV but have the 36 months new for old (admiral none, LV 1 year), so looking like they will get my business, thanks for tips

The bit that persuaded me about Club Care was the extras:
365 days per year within the EU
£5000 personal belongings + £2000 for awnings
£1000 medical expenses
£10,000 personal accident

The personal belongings alone must be worth north of £100 per year. £10,000 cover for personal accident is a bit stingy, and I need to look into topping that up with separate travel insurance.

I went with Admiral on my multi car policy. I read all the extras out as some impact cover and some don't at all. Worth checking that they confirm all the extras you list will be covered for peace of mind. Hope that helps.
I went with the same admiral policy. Was only a couple of hundred.

can i ask as just about to sign up to my insurance prior to collecting daisy on saturday, did you pay extra for the cover? my quotes say £1500 belongings and 750 awnings. i didn't add european as not going away in first year to europe. cheers

The online system gave me three (I think) options for cover. I played about with the options and found it made no difference to the price of the policy by selecting the highest cover.

However, my understanding is that Club Care is just a broker, and they use various underwriters, and the way it selects the best underwriter may also affect the cost of the options.

So the short answer is no, I didn't pay extra for the cover.

The long answer is that it would depend on the options and the way Club Care selects the best underwriter for you.

I ran through a few scenarios and there was about £20 difference between minimum and max cover and £2!! For european cover added. The PITA i discovered is transferring no claims if you have another car and were not trading it in. About £200 difference. So we buy....are getting a visit on friday so just have two cars including beach. Can't understand how its more risky to have two cars one of which will be sat on a drive!! Insurance rip off special. Hey ho. Picking up daisy on Saturday!!

Yes - I found I had that problem also. Also, it seems impossible to get both business cover and anything other than standard European 3rd party cover. As I am running down my business to auto-pilot mode, we decided that to make things simple we'd take the European insurance from day 1, and I'll hire for occasional business use, or use my bicycle.

While 1 vehicle is sat on the Driveway it is still insured for Fire/Theft and Damage so the risk is increased. Not unknown for a vehicle to be damaged by a car crashing into it from a 3rd Party.

My advice to anyone is to find yourself a reputable independent broker to tailor make a policy to your needs. Most will use the top five companies, then if you have a claim home or away they will sort it for you. Some times the extra costs can be a bonus when calamity happens.
My cover is with AXA who are almost as competitive as others.

Went with LV in the end. Covered for uninsured drivers so no excess also lower excess. Taking out a 5 year GAP replacement vehicle cover for £360 and will defer a year. Mind your GAP though as some are not authorised by FSA now so if they fail may not get comp.

I currently have a multi car policy with Admiral. Yesterday I was quoted £46 for a straight swap from Renault to Cali until my policy expires in October. The only other change is a slight increase in excess.

When I asked how much I would get back if I removed the Renault from the policy I was told £74. For me it seems a no-brainer to stay with Admiral at least until my policy expires. The only downside I can think of is that they only pay out market value so I might take a look at gap insurance.

I insured with Admiral today, my cali is the 3rd in our fleet. The renewal from A PLAN came through at over £370 as i have only 1 year no claim discount on it, max no claims on 2 other vehicles.
Admiral came in at £204 and saved me over £140 on my wifes Golf GTD.

I'll be collecting my new Beach next week and wondered what the current 'best' insurers are & ones to avoid please? This thread seems to be the most Beach specific but is a couple of years old.

I will be leaving the van for more than 48hrs unattended on some occasions - so doesn't sound like Comfort is worth approaching.

I plan to use the van for personal, domestic and leisure purposes around UK and Europe.

Currently with Direct Line (but 3rd party only on a car that has virtually no monetary value) & although satisfied with them I've never claimed...the car will go once the van arrives & will want to transfer the full no claims bonus to the van

thanks in advance

I'm with the Caravan and Motorhome Club for my Beach. For me it was no more expensive than the more mainstream insurers like Admiral and you get new for old cover for the first 24 months (from new). I didn't have to join the C&MHC to get insured.

Of course your circumstances might mean they are less competitive for you but give them a try.

Thanks -- I don't have the van yet (or the V5 more importantly) - is the Beach registered with the DVLA as a "motor caravan"? I thought they aren't

Also, are you allowed to leave the van for more than 48hrs ?

(I've just checked their prices with an online quote and they are cheaper than I'm paying for my 20 year old audi 3rd party only.., but was obliged to write motor caravan)

I am with Safeguard as with the club discount it was by far the cheapest and came with unlimited mileage

I think there’s some small print saying they can withdraw your insurance / not cover you if you don’t maintain membership.

My Beach is a Motor Caravan on the V5, yours should be too. I couldn't see anything on my policy about leaving the vehicle unattended, you would need to check.

When I took the policy I asked about membership and was told it's not necessary.
