Best WildCamping App

I can even get lost in London (the wilder parts).

I'm probably too Dutch to understand the -vaninig- part.

I've joined the 'campervan overnight parking' Facebook group. I've started making a note of places that are mentioned that I might go to one day, also when looking for a place in Suffolk I just asked and got lots of info resulting in finding a great place to park and another to stay overnight!

(PS - it didn't cost me anything!)

I've "Wild camped" in the Sahara a few times does that count?

But anywhere you have to dig a hole for your "you know what" is wild camping in my book :)

is there an app that is generally thought to be the best for wild camping/free camping sites?

Park4night is fantastic. I used it this summer to Romania and secondly Malaga. Found me free stops all the way. Works in the UK too. For example the Roseland peninsula in Cornwall. Right on the coastal footpath. Be unobtrusive and leave no trace. The best stop in Europe was a town called Lecture (spelling??) Midi Pyrenees, which had free camping free toilet free shower and free water. They really attract their tourists.

It frustrates me that there isn't a better list of 'wild' sites and pubs that allow overnights. I follow several groups on Facebook and not one has been able to collate the many many suggested places into a decent list.

I think wildcamping is the best established of those out there. 'Searchforsites' seem to be building something good and if I had to pick one for the future, that would be it.
Searchforsites looks really good, would you know if you can do a download that you can upload into the RNS 510 in a VW

I can't help I'm afraid. The only thing you can upload to my original stereo is a cassette tape!

Welshgas, o great font of Caliknowledge, do you know the answer to this?
Yes you can, but it is a bit involved. You have to download the ov2 file set for TomTom and use a Program called POIinspector, a free programme but only works on Windows machines last time I checked.
I have created a POI file of over 32,000 European campsites Archies Camping Index + C&C + C&C Certified Locations + ASCI campsites for all European countries. Each group with its own icon etc.

Hasn't failed yet.
So you should be able to do it.

You can also use cvs files and VW's own on-line software. But as it is in German a bit clunky.

You cannot add a second POI file to the RNS510 as it overwrites the first. You have to combine the POI files into one file.

Have fun.

Sorry my fault. The RNS510 POI file is not affected, but you can only have 1 Personal POI file loaded up. So if you had a Personal POI file of Speed Cameras and one of Campsites you would have to combine them if you wanted both on the unit.

If you want to load my file, PersonalPOI.dbf, download it from the link in my post.
On a blank SD card make a folder called PersonalPOI and copy the downloaded file, name stays the same, into that folder. Switch on RNS510 and insert SD card. Follow instructions.

Now that sounds within my capabilities, thanks, I will have a go

Why don't we start with your poi file and make club one and add to it the sites that are building up in the VIP thread and then we can all help maintain just one large poi system?

Did you mean CD or SD card, not bigger than 32gb fat32 format?

SD card, not CD. Fits in the little slot at the bottom of the screen.

I called the SD card PersonalPOI
And made a file called PersonalPOI ( with no gaps) and downloaded your file into it, with an unchanged name
It is in there in the sd
Is there a folder (directory) at the root of your card labelled PersonalPOI with your file in it?

Should I have just put your file staring into the SD card, not into a file named PersonalPOI
On the SD card you make a folder called PersonalPOI and you place the file called PersonalPOI.db3 into that folder. The SD card should be Fat32 file system.
Sorry if I wasn't clear.
