Cam belt change. Hi all. Apologies as I believe this has been covered before but I can’t seem to see much info on it.

I have a 2012 SE 140 and it’s due a service. I believe previously the guidance was to change the cam belt every four years, and so is due one this year. I believe the guidelines have now changed but I’m not sure what interval they are now suggesting. And are people trusting these new guidelines or changing the belt anyway? Van has full Vw history which I want to maintain but obviously a costly job at a main dealer if not required.

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks in advance

I have a 2011 140 and pondered the same question for sometime. In the end I didn’t do at 4 years with the service but then it got to 5 years and I started to think how long was I prepared to leave it considering cost v. cost if it all went wrong. So at 5 years I had the cam belt done. I have concluded that for piece of mind and on the basis of wanting to keep an older cali for the foreseeable future (and I stay on top of everything else so why not the cam belt) it makes sense.
But I fully recognise each to his/her own.
Mine was £450 ish + vat at an independent.

100,000 miles.
Under the old regime I had mine done at 4 yrs and 80,000 miles. Next one now due at 180,000 miles.

100,000 OR 10 years.

Had mine serviced this week at a VW specialist who also confirmed this. The ten years is important as the material can perish over time too.

210000km, no time interval.
I changed mine at 160000km, 11 years.
Belt still fine, water pump still dry, no noises.
Now I'm still good until 2032 before I have to change the cam belt again.IMG_20210303_124807.jpgIMG_20210312_122303.jpgIMG_20210312_123716.jpgIMG_20210312_135012.jpgIMG_20210312_170111.jpgIMG_20210313_090603.jpgIMG_20210313_090809.jpg
We'll see how it goes.
At least I now have the matching blue water pump and rollers.
