Cars I’ve Owned

Ok, so who’s gonna be the one to calculate how much, collectively, we have spent on our vehicles over the years? :Stig

Good grief.... at my age I struggle to remember my current car let alone my first.

Ok...

My first new car ... Mini 1000, a graduation present from myself and my family. First in the family to go to the slammer then first in the family to graduate ....:shocked

I've missed quite a few out.

I worked for BL and as I rose up the ladder so they gave me even more oil to dump on my drive... first one car, then another, then finally I had three of the things piddling oil everywhere, mostly changed every 9 months.

Is “working” for BL the right word?

Is “working” for BL the right word?

I worked.

My kids tell me often how I was never home.

Mostly my "work" involved getting work out of those who did not want to. It was dire. I also worked for the very worst management ever, and was fortunate to become very involved with Michael Edwardes, in a professional sense, and he was quite simply the very best influence on my life.

Austin Allegro (technically my mum's but she never drove past the town boundary!)
Ford Fiesta Supersport Limited edition (also Mum's....never out if second gear when she drove it! One of the first hot hatches)
1966 mini (hand painted baby blue and already 15 yrs old.and changed the engine over a weekend with a block and tackle, boyfriend and a Haynes manual, burst into flames near Tower Bridge. If raining would get wetter inside the car than out!)
Triumph Dolomite brown (totalled by joyriders who crashed into it)
Triumph TR7 (yellow...disconcertingly bits would fall off at crucial moments on the motorway....)
VW Beetle, beige, (takes the record for the highest number of mot failure items)
Datsun Cherry (fetching shade of sludge brown, company car....yuk)
VW Golf, fun company car
Porsche 944 company car
Mini (fetching shade of butterscotch.....divorce and self employment!)
Porsche 924s actually a lot more fun than people thought!
Mitsubishi FTO 5" mongoose exhaust....imported from Japan lovely sound.
VW Sharan disabled access for Mum's wheelchair.
VW California SE only a few months old when I got it
Smart Forfour (loads of fun round central London)

Yeah, probably. I’d challenge you on the currently owned power to weight ratio though. Either mine alone or including Claire’s Subaru BRZ + Panigale 899 ;)

Never written this down but approx:

1982 - Ford Escort Popular Plus, think about 3 years old.
1984 - Honda Accord, even older, great engine but fell apart with rust.
1985 - Astra Mk1, near new company car, great car.
1987 - Astra Mk11, as above, not so great.
1989 - Cavalier SE, as above, average car.
1991 - Cavalier Sri, as above, great car.
1993 - Cavalier Sri, as above.
1995 - Cavalier Sri, as above, then went solo in business.
1997 - Volvo 850 estate, 7 seats, bomb proof 2 year old, private buy, racked up 100k in just over 3 years.
2001 - Volvo S60 saloon, year old 2.4 petrol turbo auto, underrated, again big miles.
2003 - Volvo S60 saloon, year old 2.5 5 cylinder diesel auto, think same strong engine used by VW/Audi, sold with 135k on clock, should have kept it.
2007 - BMW 335d auto coupe, crisis car and first ever new purchase, such a great and reliable machine, a few Euro tours done, and still driven by my son with 260k on clock.
2010 - a 1997 Subaru Impreza non-turbo 4x4 estate as a second car to BMW for a couple of bad Winters. Did the job, even rescued a jeep with it.
2012 - new Ford Fiesta, shared with daughter as second car.
2014 - VW California 4M manual, SE, demo, 35k fun in 2.5 years.
2015 - year old BMW 330D auto saloon for work only.
2017 - all vehicles sold and VW Ocean 4M DSG as solo vehicle, demo with 5k on clock, 20k in a year, maybe I'll test its high mileage ability...

I realise now why I'll need to keep working :)
