Step ladders, I wouldn’t bother cleaning it while I’m on tour just at home. Also pop the roof up while ladders are out and clean and dry the rubber seal all the channels etc.

I prefer to use a 2m version telescopic ladder like this:

I have added some self adhesive sponge pads to the side that leans against the van. The 2m length is perfect for resting on the rail & awning.

Access is more stable and and you can lean further than with a step ladder, plus it is far more portable.
