. I understand that many people are not qualified electricians/autoelectricians but common sense and my school education, even though that was some 50 odd years ago, has enabled me to work out a system to charge the many electronic items we use today without blowing up my California.
Some Basic Facts.
1. Using an Inverter and a 240v mains charger to charge a phone or iPad etc: when a 12v charger is available, is a very inefficient way of doing things.
2. Using a 12v socket powered from the Engine battery, when parked up, could lead to a flat battery if you are not careful.
3. The 12v socket in the dashboard, in the cupholder, is normally wired to the engine battery as it is found in the base vehicle. The socket on top of the dashboard, if fitted, can be wired from the Leisure Battery . These sockets should be checked to confirm which battery is powering them.
4. The California 12v sockets are fused at 15amps.
On my California I use 2 X of these 12v multi sockets. 1 plugged into the Kitchen 12v socket and stuck on the kitchen sidewall with double sided tape. The 2nd multi socket is plugged into the first unit.
This gives me 5 spare 12v sockets and 2 standard 0.5amp USB sockets.
Then I have a variety of 12v to USB charger plugs for an iPone, iPad, Android phone, Kindle, Bluetooth Speaker and USB rechargeable Radio/mp3 player.
In order for my wife to use the iPad or iPhone whilst travelling then we use a 2m Apple lead. Longer leads are available.
All these items are available on Amazon or eBay. Remember Cheap is not always best.
I hope I haven't upset anyone with my comments, but if you buy an expensive vehicle to be used as an out of this world leisure vehicle then common sense and research is required to know it inside out- otherwise it would probably be safer for all concerned if you stayed at home.
