Has anyone fitted a dashcam to their T7?

I had a look at one of the new smart cams but they are so long that once you line it up with the road it interferes with the sun visor.

I’d like to get a 4k version as there are some really good tests on YouTube showing the ability to read number plates at a distance and I was shocked how poor some dash cams are.

Which recommends the Nextbase models but I always find their reviews seem to be heavily biased on price rather than performance.

Any recommendations gratefully received.

I am currently using a Viofo 2k cam with Sony STARVIS 2 Sensors that is shaped in such a way I have it at low level just above the dash in the van and it looks really neat.
It was intended to be a temporary measure until I found a better solution but I can just plug it in the 12v supply on the dash with the minimum of fuss and without any routing of the wiring.
I am happy enough with the video quality however it could be better at reading number plates.
In my car I have a Nextbase 522GW that has a Polarising filter and slightly better image quality.
But I’ve had nothing but frustration with it. Software updates always causing issues with Alexa.
Overheating if left on the screen in the summer months and so incredibly fussy with micro SD cards that it seems intent on destroying at a regular basis.
Stop/start feature upsets the recording too.

I have bought the Nextbase iq 4k as I really enjoyed the idea of being able to monitor the van when not around. But I was wondering how will the windscreen blackout screen will fit with it in place.

My van is not yet here, so I cannot comment on the visibility challenges, but I would definitely like to hear comments from people with the same dashcam

I’ll let you know in 7 weeks when I install my BlackVue DR770x 3 channel. Lipstick box.

The BlackVue cams work in all our cars fine. Just bear in mind, unless you have a seperate battery pack, you won’t get long away from the van before they shut down. If you wire them to the leisures you can get longer and they will stay on if on EHU.

Like you I thought this looked like a good set of features but having borrowed one I could see how to mount it without getting in the way.

Having seen the stick and faff with the new windscreen blackout and its tent poles I would not at all bother and just use an external cover. That's all we use now with our 6.1, can't remember when I last pulled the blinds out - probably 2 years ago.
