The factory fitted toucscreen (Discover media) on my 2016 Ocean has developed a problem with the navigation function. I can no longer access the menu to input a postcode and the letters on the left side of the screen do not work..If I input an "A" I get the next letter to the right, namely an "S". Has anybody else suffered the same issue and if so is there a fix. I've tried a hard reset several times to no avail.

Sounds like a problem with the alignment. But I do not know whether you are able to re-align,

Is the sort of issue that you can get with a PC touch screen or phone.

Have you tried using a touch screen pen rather than your finger? It might help

Also do a search on google. Specifically mention VW in your search. If a known issue then you might get a hit with a VW or Audi forum.

Thanks, I've been trawling the web for a solution including the ability to realign the touchscreen but with no luck. Apparantly there might have been a TSB issued for some models, but I am potentially looking at a £1000+ replacement...Not great for a 4 yr old vehicle thats covered 35k miles.

Hi Alan,

Not sure where you are in the country?

Call these guys

They work for VW dealers sorting out any issues for the dealers

Very very knowledgeable and extremely helpful, if it can be sorted these out the guys to do it,

Have you tried a hard reset.

From memory, press and keep holding the power button.

There will be some info on tinternet

I know there has been an update to the software and dongle. My van infotainment system was scrambled by the Dealer during some warranty work. “Sat Nav Systems “ changed the whole unit, for an updated one, the fitter told me that there had been a software update and a hardware update to the dongle in the wiring loom. Presumably to fix some issues.

Thanks all. The vehicle is currently at a vw dealership, but the service engineer to who I demonstrated the problem had not seen it before and immediately indicated the replacement unit route...I will see if they can get to the bottom of it and will otherwise contact a VW satnav specialist..

Hi Alan,

Vw will not repair a unit, tthey simply do not have trained personnel who can fault find and fix issues with the third party hard / software, they will simply fit a new one ouch !

Good luck and please update this thread with the outcome to help others in future

Just another thought.

Do you have the larger display unit?

If yes, I wonder if the garage set to the smaller display size when they updated the software etc. This will have the effect of misaligning the buttons.

I have found this. Is relating to a Golf, but may be similar on the T6.

Note comments about needing diagnostic tool to access deeper functions.

Also, note comments about not changing settings unless you know what you are doing.

But if you can get to the hidden menu, then it might provide an indication that the alignment can be reset.

Good luck

Again thanks. I ve taken the van back and have discovered that by repeatedly swiping the faulty area of the screen I can, with some trial and error access the desired menu. Simply touching the screen is ineffective. I ve booked the van into Sat Nav systems in Surbiton tomorrow so hopefully they can diagnose a better solution...

Hi Alan,
Mention that you heard about them through this Forum.

If your cheeky and ask the, they may even change a few setting for you whilst they have the VCDS hooked up.

Good luck, report back :thumb

I took the my van to Satnav systems UK ltd in Surbiton. It transpires that my media system part number 5COO3568OC is well known for this hardwire problem but VW do not recognise it. Satnav systems have had in excess of 50 vehicles with the same issue. The cost of replacing the whole unit is £1360 +VAT from the VW dealer. Satnav Systems replaced the PQ screen and mother board that sits behind it at a cost of £600+VAT this included £30 for a 2020 Map SD card. My advice: If you have extended warranty, check if you have this part number. If you get any hint of the media unit doing anything untoward then claim on your warranty. One common first sign is the radio randomly changing channels without you touching it. This happened to me last year and I was advised to do a hard reset. I did this but 12 months later the touch screen also failed. I have 12 months warranty with the new parts and everything is now working normally....

Hi Alan

Glad the guys at SNS got you up and running at a lesser cost than replacing the whole unit.

Many thanks for the update which will help others in future

My sat nav has started jumping around and doing its own thing even after a few hard resets. Still under 5 yr warranty so they best swap in out.

Take it from me..it will fail and you will be in the same situation as me. If you take it to VW they might send the unit off to be repaired in the same way mine was, in which case its not a bad compromise as mine works now as new.

Also got this infuriating jumping screen on my 2016. Comes and goes, but when it happens it's impossible to do anything except turn the volume up and down. Out of warranty unfortunately...
Anyone got any recommendations for someone to look at it Cornwall or Devon way?!

The guys in Surbiton sorted mine out in under an hour if you book a slot.....No useful suggestions for your part of the world however.

I believe Alan is referring to “Sat Nav systems“ in Surbiton, try giving them a call, Hamid, Adam or any of the other guys will offer you excellent advice, they may be able to fix your unit via post.

there has been several software updates, give Them a try.

Hi. Just wanted to say that I have a 2016 Ocean that has the same problem on the RHS of the screen. I have been sort of living with it for about 6 months but I want to get it sorted now for the Summer. How are you getting on with your resolution.... 'Satnav Systems replaced the PQ screen and mother board that sits behind it at a cost of £600+VAT this included £30 for a 2020 Map SD card'?

Mine started jumping around and would lock up.They swapped it out under warranty eventually, glad i had the 5 year warrant.

Yes that was full cost. I have not experienced any problems since and I have full functionality. I now keep a small condensation trap in the vehicle in case that was the source of the original problem.
