Discovery Media touchscreen.

I now have a similar problem. Cannot select a few letters on left when entering a postcode. Satnav solutions are a long way from Devon…

Hi. Just wanted to say that I have a 2016 Ocean that has the same problem on the RHS of the screen. I have been sort of living with it for about 6 months but I want to get it sorted now for the Summer. How are you getting on with your resolution.... 'Satnav Systems replaced the PQ screen and mother board that sits behind it at a cost of £600+VAT this included £30 for a 2020 Map SD card'?
£720!...You can buy a brand new Kenwood unit + VW interface lead for that money. This would also give you Wireless car play, Satnav over Waze (so no need to pay for map upgrades/update maps) & you can just read out your destination so no need to touch the screen whilst driving.

Does that Kenwood unit drop in perfectly and look as good …. interested

Speak to Absolut5 as they give great advice..

For a T5.1, Just unclipped the plastic tray that sits on top of the dash, remove VW Fascia trim with a trim tool, then 4 torx screws to release the VW unit. Would guess its similar for T6.

The supplier will be able to provide a new Fascia kit that is specific the the new radio/van; the important thing is the interface lead then you will retain climate control, heated seats on the new unit display (may also need to disconnect van bluetooth module by removing glovebox, as BT module is hidden underneath, and stick a supplied GPS pad antenna on hidden on the top of the glovebox, then refit - from memory its 4 screws to remove the glovebox so quite easy & lots of how to videos on google). It also has a camera feed on the back of the Kenwood unit, so if you already have a camera you can just plug it in.:

Hello @Ch1pbutty
who is this Absolut5 as I am having the same issue with my Seat Alhambra MIB II PQ DISCOVER MEDIA NAVIGATION. I got my car booked for a service and they want to charge me ~130£ to diagnose the issue and I assume ~1400£ for a new radio.

I could go and see the guys Satnav Systems but I might as well go for a different radio if I can get all the features like rear camera and parking sensors working.

Any recommedations?

THX

Steffen

I have a Kenwood DMX8019DABS and it’s great. Speak to Absolut5 as they will be able to supply the unit + correct Kenwood interface lead to ensure that rear camera, climate etc show on the screen. (Avoid any 3rd party interface leads as you don’t always get full functionality & will need to splice cables).

Who or how do I contact them? tried already to + them but does not show up?

I have had what is probably the last DMX8019DABS in the UK fitted into my van today. There is a serious lack of stock out there.

Any idea what my removed Discover Media unit is worth? Obviously it needs to be sold with the screen issue disclosed but it works fine with CarPlay etc...

Just out of warranty mine doesn't work on the right hand side. I might try the Satnav system guys. p is a popular letter in postcodes Ive discovered!

Got 2017 T6 Ocean and our touchscreen has stopped working on the RHS too.

See post #4

its a known issue with certain units with a certain suffix code.

Our 2016 Ocean RNS 510 touchscreen has died. Randomly selects buttons on its own. There is software update online for £75 but no information suggests this will fix it.

Are you sure it is the RNS 510 system you have? I thought it wasn’t fitted in the T6.

Can you post a photo?

I know this is an old post but our touch screen stopped working on the right hand side recently. Contacted VW who will only replace the entire unit upwards of £2500.

From the number of people with the same issue it looks like a common problem that VW (yet again) are refusing to acknowledge.

Found a local audio specialist who will replace just the touch screen. It was a fraction of the cost of VW and he said that VW always get him to replace the faulty screens of cars brought in a trade-ins but VW will not offer the service direct to customers as the whole unit makes them more profit.

Ours has failed a row on the right hand side of the touch screen has failed at 4.5yrs old. Thank fully we've got the extended factory warranty and they're replacing the whole unit.

To those folks that have had issues with their head unit touch screens: is the issue confined to the touch screen only?

When I first turn on my unit it often goes unresponsive, i.e. the touch screen AND the physical buttons don't work. A reset clears the issue. My perception is that some areas of the touch screen might not be responding as they should but the unit seems to have wider issues.

Based on the above, I'm reluctant to send off my unit for a touch screen fix.

Incidentally, I bought an AAWireless dongle last week to add wireless Android Auto. Works a treat so far.

For those in the Stockport, South Manchester area I have just had the touchscreen replaced on the media unit (2016 California) at CARS (Car audio repair specialist) in New Mills. £195.

I did my own for 14£ and found it very straightforward to replace the broken touch screen in just over 30 mins. I live 20 minutes away from Chester up the A55. If anyone wants a hand to fix themselves I’ll gladly help.
