So I took delivery of my 2013 Cali start of Feb great van however when i got it the electric side door kept bouncing back when closing so took it to the dealers day after.

They replaced the pinch protection seal, still the same took it back again they replaced the sensor. Worked then it started scuffing the wheel arch paint work. Back in for adjustment cable replacement and repsray.Magic until they scuffed the paint while washing the van. Booked it back in for paintwork to be sorted. Took the van away for a weekend and low and behold it started scuffing the paint again. All sorted out two weeks ago and guess what its scuffing the paint again. Anyone had this issue?

Really has spoiled what was a very good van.

Search electric door posts on the forum there has been quite a bit so much that you may wish you did not go for an electric door good luck :headbang :headbang

Just to give a clearer picture, can anyone who has the electric door and has NOT had an issue please let us all know.

Without wanting to tempt fate and also touching wood while typing mine has been fine all the time I've had the van. Find it a great feature.

I have a 2012 California with an electric door, it sometimes bounces back when shut with the key fob, but not often, and I then close it with the door handle or dash button and it's fine. it has not damaged any paintwork. the most annoying feature is the beep when it closes on a campsite at night. I like it - so far!

Thanks, I have just ordered a van with it fitted. My wife has problems with her wrists, so after reading all the comments about the issues I'm hoping I have done the right thing..

I had some issues with mine for a while but since my dealer replaced the handle a couple of years ago it's been fine since

Mine seems ok but the beep is annoying on campsite but we just turn off the power assist at night

Obvious question, does this mean when you turn it off you operate it manually?

Yes it can be operated manually (there is a switch on the dashboard to turn the auto assist off). However when operating manually you are pulling or pushing against the motor so it takes more effort than a version without the elec door.
The beeps are a bit irritating on a campsite late at night but the noise a normal door makes as it slides and then slams shut isn't exactly quiet either. For stealthy trips to the toilet block you can use the front cab doors.

Yup - I'm a big chap so not too much effort!
Once out of warranty I will be getting the wire cutters out

I've had same problem also. Been back to dealers 3 times now. Had pinch seal replaced. Scuffed paintwork on the rear wheel arch every time. Still got to go back for painting. Really peeing me off coz I think my Cali is fab and it just takes the shine of it. :sad

Yeah still ongoing with mine, Will be back to dealer this week so someone from VW uk can have a look.

Still catching paint so will be on for its 4th trip to the bodyshop, Still bouncing now and again and sounds rather rough.......

Seems like its not just an electric door thing tho as the inlaws door is the same :crazy

Welcome to Electric door bounce back problem. i am having this since more then a year. change every parts 3-4 times but no success. changed two dealers as well but both failed to fix.

my cali back after 20 days last week only bu...........................t no success :headbang .

This time vw UK appointed a specialist mechanic from germany (over the mail or phone) he advice to my dealer change control unit and all running gears and sensors etc. as per instruction i suppose dealer changed all parts of my faulty door. initially 1-2 days look fine to me but its back again.

Problem remain same. i dont know wat to do.

:help

Mine has started doing it again on occasion.
I get over it by gently pushing the door when it starts to close which seems to work.
Certainly not going to contemplate a dealer visit unless it starts damaging the wheel arch which it never has luckily

I've had the repeated bounce back problem in the last week when attempting to close with the key fob. As it seems to have corrected itself for now I haven't taken it to a dealer and by the sounds of it the dealers seem to be foxed too. I did wonder whether something might be physically obstructing a smooth close but could find nothing obvious and it closed manually all right. So.... fingers crossed but I won't be surprised if the problem recurs.

Noticed small amount of paint damage to rear wheel arch, thought some "nice" person had rubbed a shopping trolley although it dint look as if it was typically a trolley scrape, so bought a pen touch up and painted it in. Earlier noted its back ?? Opening the door and its scraping the paint - really ? How many other have this issue ... before I go to my VW dealer....

This is similar to marks I had on my Cali wheel arch. The cause was the lower roller on the door not running properly. Check to see if the roller turns when the door is opening and closing. I found that this area gets very dirty and my bearing eventually stopped rotating and tended to slide rather than roll along. This makes the door shudder slightly when opening and closing, and sometimes prevents the full movement.

Yes had this problem for 10years dealer unable to fix it . I just paint it every 6months but still love the electric door. Any one know a fix but will have a look at roller as in above post.

Had the same on our cali which we’ve only had two weeks. Only a very slight scuff & I’ll be able to polish 90% of it out but we found that it only happened when parked on our driveway which has a slight slope & camber so the door shudders a little. On a flat road there’s absolutely no issues.

I try to keep the bottom track nice and clean and use a silicon spray to lubricate. Seems to work.

Does it always hit the arch in the same place?

I'm thinking about adding some clear protective tape but not sure how much of the arch I need to cover.

Yes. Had it numerous times and painted numerous times.

Touch wood, changing the door motor seems to have cured the problem.

It hits the arch mainly at the top and towards the rear . Had motor and track replaced last year still hits it.
