Emergency roof closure

Thanks for this post. I too was mystified by the yellow foam covering the screw! Crazy procedure!

VW logic baffles me, emergency procedure for dropping roof involves the need to dismantle roof control and carve up the foam using a razor knife but they don’t consider owners capable of being able to handle a fuse layout diagram!

I've posted this in General because it relates to anyone when the Cali roof fails to close. The manual describes a manual lowering procedure, which involves removing the control unit and accessing a screw to release the oil pressure. Unfortunately, this screw was not visible on my Cali because it was hidden behind the foam padding retaining the hydraulic pump. Using a blade, a small section had to be cut out of the foam to access it. I have seen other posts in the Elevating roof section also mentioning not seeing the screw.

It seems to me that this could cause stress when the roof fails to close, and users try to locate the screw in an emergency. I have posted a few images showing what has to be done.
Thank you - this just saved our holiday! I feel impressed I did this all by myself.

Can anyone recommend a VW camper roof specialist near Stroud in Gloucestershire to now fix our T5 California roof?

You have a Beach, manual roof?
What is wrong with your roof?

I have an Ocean with an electric roof. I don't know what the problem is, getting message "roof fault", and then it wouldn't close fully. Then nothing happened when I pressed the roof close (or open).
I just wanted an expert to look at it, most garages don't know enough about the mechanisms to help, hence the ask for help.

Your vehicle details had me puzzled!

You mention T5 and Ocean. The 2 are incompatible as the Ocean model only came in with the T6/6.1.
Which year?
VW Vertu/ formerly VW South Hereford at Centurion Way, Hereford seem to know the California. They have looked after my vehicle for the past 8yrs since I purchased from them. They are a joint Dealership looking after VW cars and commercials on one site in one building with one workshop.

Thank you for the contact - I'll check them out.
Bit confused by your comment as I have a T5 California model (2015) with all the kitchen units, sink, etc, thought that was the Ocean model. What is the model name/code if not an Ocean. Is it an SE?

Yes, T5.1 SE.
It would be worth changing the vehicle description on your Avatar that still says T5 Beach.
