Just clipped a van mirror and have a couple of marks on the wing mirror as shown. It's an ocean red, any ideas what's best to patch up?!

It is not very noticeable - so I would let it stay. A reminder to be careful whenever you get into the van?

T Cut is usually good for small scrapes. Worth a try before getting paint out.

Looks like the contact has removed the paint to the plastic underneath so T Cut unlikely to improve this.
Second Stu@rt suggestion at #2 replacement mirror shell in your van colour is the way to go unless you plan to repeat the incident at regular intervals.
To remove the shell you need to remove the mirror details here.

NB be careful with the clips on the shell that hold it to the door mirror frame they are brittle!!!

Just leave it, adds to the character!

Try some T-Cut, you will most probably get most of the marks out.

Just order a new cap from VW or you can get carbon fibre stick on 3m caps prob about £80-£100 or go aftermarket if you want cheap

Of course! That car was beautiful, such a head turner and so f@~king cool....

Bought it in 2006 for £5001 off eBay, sold it 2 years later (shall we say emergency sale) for £4,500.

Almost as painful as selling my '74 bay window in 2002 for £2.5k...

What next? selling the Ocean next year for a pittance.....

I agree with @GrumpyGranddad, I would get it estimated for a smart repair, it looks like very easy job and it will be cheaper and simpler than a mirror cap replacement.

Whilst T Cut won't help if the paint has been scratched away, sometimes what appears to be a scratch is very occasionally residue left from the object you have collided with. I once had a passing car hit my wing mirror while I was parked up and the ensuing abrasions looked horrendous. I was away from home but had some toothpaste in my holdall -- a gentle rub with it completely removed the marks. Always worth trying T Cut first.

The best looking car ever in my opinion. You cannot buy a good one for anywhere near that price anymore.

I would try some t-cut as mentioned above and polish in case it’s paint transfer. Has your paint lifted…?

After a buff it may not be to bad.
It’s worth waiting and saving them all up. You will get more.

Hit a decent body shop every 4 years and get them to sort all the little imperfections at once.

, I would love another one but they are SOOO expensive now and need so much looking after...... luckily when I had mine there was a neighbour who had a '70 T2 and knew how to rebuild the engines, he helped me out more than once.....

Just taken this pic to show better, the bottom, bigger mark feels smooth so doesn't appear to have done too much damage, the top one you can see a bit where the paint is away (the darker area)

I'll have a look for T-Cut here in Luxembourg or wait until I'm in the UK

I don't really have any idea about the performance or cost of companies like 'chips away' but if its through the paint maybe worth investigating?

Looks more like a deep scuff than a scratch from the last picture. Before forking out for a complete replacement or respray I might be tempted to try a colour matched scratch repair product. Lots of them available on the market.

If you can’t find the T-cut brand, any decent car rubbing compound with do such as below:

Meguiars Ultimate Compound 450 ml - carparts GmbH, 22,90 €

The ultimate product for removing oxidation, scratches, water spots, and blemishes without scratching Cuts as fast as harsh abrasives restoring surface clar

It’s worth first trying with car polish, then use rubbing compound if no luck in removing with polish.
