Folding chairs - any recommendations?

I like the idea of the rocker version..... big money for what they are tho.

We have a pair of Helinox Chair One’s, and their quality can’t be denied - I’ll maybe have a go at selling them first, before committing to new ones.

@No_heroes The Nash Moon certainly looks fantastic. When you say it packs up quite large but it's still better than a folding chair when fitting it in the van, do you mean still smaller, or better shape or...?

We have 2 chairs that we bought from Aldi. £15 each very comfortable and sit along the back shelf. I find the California chairs a bit uncomfortable when using them for any length of time. Also an expensive liability to leave out. £15 you don’t mind losing but £100 not so sure.

My new favorite is the oztent king goanna!!

very comfortable, packs really well, adjustments and a beer cooler!

No, but we put Outwell Baffin stools in there with the standard Cali chair. Makes for a good footstool and extra table.

Auberg-ine is the expert on how to fit it all in...
I’ve never managed to get both the legs and the table tops in with the chair sadly - and boy have I tried every permutation imaginable as well as looking at photos posted elsewhere on this site. Very frustrating because I know it can be done!

We love these. Take two with us everywhere. Folds up easy and a bit like a sat up hammock. Lafuma MOBILIER Design Chair on Amazon134E3ACF-BE0C-4D8B-B46A-98CAE0E9E9D3.jpeg

I only put in the stools with the chairs; the tabletops I keep under in the boot (see nr. 18 of the same pict).
Notice that you have to first put the Cali chairs in like on the 3rd pict of post #1 of the thread hereunder (check position of handrest), slide the stools in between (widest part under), till where they block, then open them some 3cm to push deeper .
Have fun!

In order to fulfill the task of being a good folding camping chair it needs to have the following qualities:

1. It must be comfortable.
2. It must stand the test of time and not break or fall to bits.
3. It must be lightweight.
4. It must be compact.

The expensive Cali picnic chairs only meet tests 3 and possibly 4.

We have had two picnic chairs that we bought from a motorway services about twenty or so years ago for about £20 for the pair. They have met all four tests but are now starting to look rather second hand. So the search has been on for some time now for replacements. The trouble is that in this throw away world, every candidate has failed on test number 2. Nothing seems to be built to last any more.

So we've had to make do with an interim compromise. Whilst looking for camping chairs at a camping specialist store recently we discovered the Vango Titan. Actually they were about the only chairs they had left! Yes it's very comfortable indeed. It's also over engineered for the larger person so it should last for donkey's years. The downsides are that it's neither lightweight nor compact. Their is one other plus though; this whole massive armchair is thickly padded so it keeps your back warm on the colder nights. Two of these monsters cost £95 and will do us until a better solution presents itself.

The image is deceptive as it appears smaller than it actually is. I'm the best part of six foot tall and I can rest my head on the chair back.

These look like a perfect solution, I need a third chair that works sitting at the table. All other compact chairs that fit in the tailgate are too low laid back. Weight would be my only concern as they are steel but I only need one so it may not be a problem

More importantly though where is that campsite in the German video, looks like a fantastic location

Great campsite indeed. He said he was in (South of?) France.

Been looking for 2 taller chairs to fit in the chair bag, so we can all sit at the table. These look like great chairs but I just saw they weigh 5kg each! That would be another 10kg on the rear tailgate and I’d worry that might be another reason the struts might struggle...although, looks ok in the video, even with a bike rack attached.

Anyone on the forum actually used them?

I was browsing this thread earlier, before a trip to Costco. Was tempted by the look of the Robens explorer as mentioned by someone higher up.... However I've taken a punt on a lookalike which I found, in Costco, at I think £33. How bad can it be?!

Ps I've been sitting on it a while this afternoon and feels comfy. Fairly snug and quite upright but it works for me (5'9 and 10st).

I went to the comments of the video on You Tube. It’s apparently the Huttopia Gorges du Tarn site

Wow, I really like the idea of being able to store 2 extra chairs in the tailgate. Must say these seem a bit heavy for my taste though. Had anyone ever come across other chairs that fit in the tailgate when the original 2 chairs are already packed in there?

Go and have a look at the German Caliboard : https://www.caliboard.de/topic/10267-alternative-stühle-zum-verstauen-in-der-heckklappe/
In case we're a company of 4 we just use the 2 extra lightweight Outwell Baffin stools at the table (fit perfectly between the VW chairs )(see #23), Not the end of the world if it's just for lunching or dining. For the relaxing hours there's the foot-rest relax tripods.

Lafuma....not the lightest or the cheapest but definitely the most comfortable.
