Hi, Just saw this - I had the Fraron shipped to the campsite we were at in France last year - My wife is German and so she called them and emphasised the urgency (though I'm sure if you call them they'll also have someone who speaks English) - i think we paid a little extra for express delivery, but it was there within 2 days. With a basic set of tools its possible to fix in the field.

Hi, I've just ordered a fraron charger as mine packed up last summer. Couple of questions that I'm not 100% on after reading this thread:

1. I dont suppose somebody could provide a link or picture of the fuse they purchased?

2. The unit does not look like it uses the existing mounting points. Do I need any ply etc to mount it to.

3. As I'm using new wiring, does the original wiring from the old socket just remain in place?

here's my thoughts...
For the fuse, you could use an inline one like this:

or a fuse box something like this:

Incidentally, when i did my emergency install of this i didn't have the fuse available and did install without for a period of time (I think the unit even has its own onboard fuse?).

I simply screwed it to the floor with the fittings provided...

The old plug simply fits to the new charger, but its only really doing the one job of showing the charging indicator of the cab control panel. I guess the rest of the wires in that plug are redundant (though mostly handled by the unit's other connections).

Thanks. I have ordered a couple of fuses with brackets, as intend to connect the starter battery as well.

You look to have more space than I have so not sure how I'd gain access to screw to the floor. I'll maybe use a small piece of ply as per another poster.

Thanks for the advice, my Fraron is now fitted. As had been stated already it's not a difficult job, however is made more difficult by (in my van) it not fitting in the stock location. By way of advice, if you are fitting make sure you have the fuses and a bit of ply board to attach it to before you start. It's a lot easier than starting that waiting of other bits..

Bonjour, je vous propose un nouveau schéma de montage du chargeur Fraron sur VW T4 en remplacement du Philips. Plutôt que de raccorder les fils sur les batteries gels de loisir je propose de couper les fils sur la prise à 6 branches du VW, avec raccord de dominos pour les fils gris et marron, pour le fil rouge on utilisera le fusible 20 A. Ca me semble plus simple, je ne suis pas spécialiste, qu’en pensez-vous ?



Hello, I offer you a new Fraron charger assembly diagram on VW T4 to replace the Philips. Rather than connecting the wires to the leisure gel batteries, I suggest cutting the wires on the VW 6-branch socket, with dominoes for the gray and brown wires, for the red wire we will use the 20 A fuse. seems simpler to me, I'm not a specialist, what do you think?
