Has anyone else noticed how hot the control knobs for the gas rings get when in use. We were using both recently and needed oven mit to turn them down or off.

Also found you need to lift glass top of sink up if using adjacent ring as this gets v hot and obviously remove sink bowl as that would melt; bit of a poor design here and perhaps the all in one glass lids was better idea ensuring glass next to sink side grill was lifted.

Only if you use a large pan. it is the heat reflecting off the pan base on to the control nobs that then gets them very hot. True for any gas hob - even the one at home. Primarly dictated by the size of the overall appliance.

Your observations are correct but almost inevitable in camper with the size of a cali. The split glass lid came after other campers like marco polo did it. I still believe it is a good thing and offers a better use of the kitchen area than the overall glass lid. You close the lid over the gas rings during dish washing or you only open glas lid over sink to fill drinking bottle.

but our largest pot is tragic which is about 8 inch

RTFM
The maximum pan size is stated in the manual. The knobs do not get hot if you use the correct size.

One of the rings should have been a smaller simmer ring also I will post all dimensions when get access to it .
It's all in manual that came with cooker .

View my thread.
Volkswagen boo boo with gas hob .

Also have watch glass does not get bubbles / air pockets inside due to intense heat .
This happened to mine.
They have agreed change my glass under goodwill gesture .

Volkswagen still can't answer if glass is laminated or Toughened,
It's been referred to technical I'm still awaiting reply ?

It toughened glass. I’ve seen photos of exploded cooker tops with glass everywhere - if laminated it would have shattered and stayed in one piece much like a windscreen.

Having exhausted ‘Beansgate’ in your own thread can we let that lie and maybe address the OPs point. Please. And with due respect.

Nope. Never had any of these issues.

Having specialised in glass for over 35 years I can tell you it's toughened or tempered as some say and possibly heat soaked to remove nickel sulphide particles

Can't see anything in my manual unfortunely - it would have made sense for the one nearest sink to be a smaller simmer ring. We had this on our old conversion; controls never got hot on those.

If you get a reply from VW, please can you post here. Thanks.

Got mine back from dealers and chap said he'd never heard of that but did comment on 'why did they do a plastic bowl - surely a silicone one like kettles would have been better....' Cost I'd say. He said he thought it was max 8" suggested but then said so what to do if you did want a fry up lol......we both laughed as I said 'how can you possibly have it smelling of bacon...'. We'll get a smaller frying pan then and keep using our dixie set perhaps on outside grill?

Why would you think that on a German built tool you can put an 8" pan when they specifically state that the maximum is 7.87" (20 cm).
Joking aside, if the plastic knobs are heating up or you are burning your sauce then it's you that needs to do the adjusting, which I think is what you yourself concluded. :thumb

That's more to pack that I don't need!!!!
It isn't really, you don't need a frying pan, a BBQ, a spare cooker, a Wok, an oven, a pizza oven, a paella pan, a griddle pan, it is all of these things (and you can control the flame so your beans don't burn!)
