How long do owners keep their Calis for ?

Probably Petrol.
Unless they change anything, but the Hybrid had only 30 miles range so that on many of my trips I would be carting a heavy , empty battery around.
If it was self charging - maybe.

Bought ours new with my early retirement lump sum 14 years ago, now done just under 100,000 miles. It’s let us down just the once when we were on hols in southern France a couple of years ago, but even then, our breakdown meant we had to camp, waiting for a part to be delivered to the garage, in a beautiful town!( Figeac)

We‘ll likely be keeping it until I can no longer climb upstairs, so,hopefully another 10 years.

I bought our 2008 in 2009 and can't see me getting a new one. Where we live there are 2 T25s so I am waiting for ours to become classic. I'm also hoping that when they get around to banning diesels altogether (or charging you £100 a day to drive it) older camper vans will be treated sympathetically like classic cars are now - so I think the older the van the better.... ....in 2030 mine will be 22yrs old.

Had ours 8 of its 12 year life. Keep thinking about changing ……… then I think, why? If we do change in the future I’m considering keeping this for my offspring - both who love camping but just not in a position to fork out money on a tidy one yet.

Thought long and hard. Self charging hybrid - Yes. But I dont think that’s what is on offer and seeing as I do a lot of long distance trips then I don’t see the point of lugging around an empty battery. I favour petrol at present. We’ll see what’s on actual offer.

We are on our second Cali which is now 12 years old and going strong. Previously we had a T4 Cali for 9 .years. As I’m now 80 and I’m not sure how long Mrs DoH will be able to erect the downstairs bed while I’m at the loos cleaning my teeth at night so our camping trips might possibly not justify getting a new vehicle. But she is younger than me and we have no plans to change or stop yet.

Recommend taking the extra 2 year warranty for about £400. Even if you sell after 3 years, the next owner will thank you.
(But I expect you'll want to keep it!)

We were grateful that the initial owner had extended the warranty, as second owners we had quite a number of issues repaired, new seat base, new control unit, EGR flush twice. All quiet expensive if we had to cover the cost.

Yes I agree with you there, PHEV's generally are primarily a tax dodge to keep the co2 emissions low to benefit company car drivers with lower benefit in kind rates. Can't see too many Calis being used as company cars so it'll be interpreting how any hybrid will fare...

First VW camper was a T4 model from 2001. Sold that one in 2017 after extensive use on two continents. A replacement T6.1 arrived late last Summer. Just starting to enjoying it. Great van but the old T4 was better to drive and roomier. Plan to keep this one for a long time.

Plug in hybrids are the worst of both worlds. The combustion engine still needs servicing, cam belt change, DSG oil change etc. The PHEV battery needs plugging in, the range of 10-50 miles is ridiculous, the vehicle weighs 75-100 kg more, and the boot space is sometimes smaller too. I’ve collected end of lease PHEVs that have never been plugged in, bought purely for the BIK tax break.

I’ve had my T6 for 8 years now. No intention of selling it. My teen daughters will hopefully use it when they can drive and go camping with their friends.

I may even be driven in in at ‘my end of days’ to a deserted old grave yard and have it as my own private mausoleum
