** Important News: New Vehicle Registrations on Hold

The emissions will relate not just to the engine, but the vehicle weight. Even tyres/ bigger alloys will make a difference.

It isn't too difficult to see that there will be a time when any change to the original Factory/delivered spec will require a new emissions test certificate in order to obtain the correct VED duty rate. Prohibitively expensive I'd have thought.

Although our manual has apparently been built as a DSG to get it through this legislation issue which is very disappointing for us, we have at least been told it is in the UK and is available for registration and delivery when we are ready, which is an encouraging sign something is moving....if it can be believed.
I will call the dealer again tomorrow to clarify this as the contradictory information coming from the dealerships and zero information from Volkswagen is appalling.

Okay, finally we have an answer from Volkswagen on our situation and although it is somewhat contradictory to yesterday’s conversation with the dealer, today’s telephonic array of spiel is a far more feasible explanation, albeit a ridiculous sequence of events given this is apparently all about an environmental issue.
This is what we have been told this afternoon...
Our 150 diesel manual Beach was built to the exact specification of our order and was shipped to the UK at week 50 as scheduled.
This vehicle will now never be registered for use and is scheduled to be returned to Germany either for reconfiguration or disposal.
The factory have allocated a new build slot of week 7 for our replacement California which will be of the exact specification of our original order with the exception of the 6 speed manual transmission being replaced with a 7 speed DSG system at no additional cost.
As there seems to be little option, we have decided to accept the replacement vehicle and we expect to take delivery around the 2nd week of March....

.......unless of course they decide to fit this one with a rocket engine, cover it in ceramic tiles and send it to the moon because the EU computer says it will be more environmentally friendly to do this than use it on Earth..

Wasn't someone saying although the 150 manual is discontinued, they are still making the 204 manual. If you really want a manual why not ask them to upgrade you to the 204 manual rather than the 150DSG.

If I was offered a DSG replacement for a manual at no extra cost I would be delighted, if of course it happened without the sheer buggeration that you have been through :shocked

That would certainly be my preference but I think the 204 is only available in the Ocean and not currently on the Beach...

Buggeration aside GrannyJen, we sold our 204DSG back in November to fund the new one in manual. It was just my preference to go back to a manual but it looks like it’s not meant to be... Hey ho

Unfortunately this is right, 204 only on the Ocean in the UK, and also the only manual available in the Ocean is a 150 TSI (Petrol).

This is the latest price list:

It certainly seems like the emerging issue is the manual TDI models then. It does make me wonder though why VW haven't allowed the DSG models to keep flowing in the meantime?

I asked this very question yesterday but was given no definitive answer as to why they have held back other DSG models....

I suspect the issue effects all engine/gearbox combinations and maybe they decided to cull some of the less popular variants as there is most likely high costs associated getting each combo through approvals.

I used the configuration options and it allowed a150ps manual option but showed the CO2 as 179gm. Something is going on and VW are not being honest or just incompetents.

If 150 manual is now going to be discontinued then entry level prices for Ocean have just jumped up by another 2-3k.

Just looked at the configurator and there was no 150 manual but there was 150 4motion manual?

Correct. But it was still a 150ps with manual box. As the 4motion has greater CO2 output it would appear the issue of emissions has given VW an opportunity to make a market decision to cut options and costs to VW (and raise prices)

Only way to properly check is to try to order one? Even then you'd probably get 97 different stories...

Not sure about the configurator but isn’t the price list the absolute answer of what’s available now ?

There have been many mistakes on the configurator in the past.
My position is and has always been 'No one knows what they are playing at or what will be the outcome'
The 150 manual is a great combination ( I know the devotees of the 204 etc but we have a choice). Look at the number of T6 vans of all descriptions using the 150 M.
I don't know what they are up to or what they are telling the customer service dept in the UK. I only know that the longer this nonsense goes on the less I like VW as a company. (love their vehicles though)

Could it be that the DSGs have more predictable emissions due to the fact the engine/gearbox combination can be programmed to minimize the emissions?

This would allow VW to have greater confidence in its stated emission figures.

Just a thought :(

Could well be. You cannot control drivers harsh acceleration and ability so the future will be full automation. Might even do away with people and only carry robots:Nailbiting:Nailbiting

I agree but the 'correct' gear will be engaged almost always :)

As an owner of a 2016 T6 Beach 150ps manual I have only briefly glanced at this thread from time to time thinking that it only effected new unregistered vehicles. However, IF VW have discontinued the 150 manual and there now seems to be some doubt as to whether this model will ever be sold again in the future, then there must be something pretty seriously wrong with the current 150 manual set up. Otherwise they would bring out some form of upgrade to solve the issue and then recommence production.

Your post states you where told that, "This vehicle will now never be registered for use and is scheduled to be returned to Germany either for reconfiguration or disposal". Pretty disturbing stuff if true.

So IF true, I am now wondering what VW will have to do about all of the already registered T6 Transporter based passenger carrying vehicles. IF this problem has only just been discovered then it suggests to me that it may have been there since the start of the T6 production run. I am certainly not aware that the T6 150 manual has undergone any udgrades since the beginning of production. VW can't ignore these vehicles because IF the 150ps manual doesn't comply now then surely it didn't from the start of production. IF that's the case then they were misrepresented at point of sale. Therefore they will surely have find a solution. Since the problem appears to be serious enough to warrant the removal of this model from production then a quick fix doesn't sound either likely or possible.

IF I've got the correct measure of this situation then where does this leave current owners of already registered T6 150 ps manual passenger carrying vehicles? A free fitted new replacement dsg gearbox, or a new replacement dsg Beach? I am pretty certain that neither of these options are even remotely likely but surely they will have to do something to rectify this situation? IF I'm right, compensation won't fix the route cause of this issue either.

I know there are no firm facts at present and most of this is speculation but IF what you (Jenko) have been told by VW proves to be true then the whole issue may well have much wider ramifications.

Time to get some custom made "150m edition" badges made up for the final few to have made it to the road... Or maybe something we could raid from the BMW parts bin. Maybe in a dirty carbon grey colour to show we're the unwitting emissions bad boys :Stig

I guess Boris, that you will just keep driving your vehicle as it is. I doubt that you will be forced to have any modification carried out as it is perfectly legal as is. Emission standards are evolving and will apply to new vehicles. So drive and enjoy!

My view is at the time of all 150 ps manuals registered 2016-2017 are probably fine and won’t be effected. The problem probably has arisen because euro regulations constantly trying to make manufacturers reach targets that is not possible without compromise and cheating. The tax laws for April are the reason for all this confusion. In fairness as stated earlier VW are the ones who noticed and withdrew until they had spoken to German authorities. There lies the problem trying to dictate and control everything. Arguably at the scandal Mercedes, Honda were the ones that had higher emissions than VW.
It’s all nonsense get on with enjoying your California it will be years before they possibly decide on a plan forward that we may have to consider.

Hi Boris think it should read BIG IF
Truth is no one knows what is going on. The dealers are as much in the dark as we are and some are spouting nonsense. We just have to wait and see then sue the sods.
