** Important News: New Vehicle Registrations on Hold

Forgive me if I'm being dense, but what do you mean you asked to pick a reg number? Do you get a choice?
The choice is severely restricted.

The first two letters are dependent on where your dealer is located. The two digits are dependent on the year - in your case 18. The dealer will have a small random selection of usually consecutive final letters.

For example, if your dealer is SMG Tonbridge your choices might be:
GK18 EXA
GK18 EXB
GK18 EXC
GK18 EXD
GK18 EXE
GK18 EXF

But you might have to ask your dealer for a list of their available numbers, if you don't they will make the choice for you.

“I'm pleased to let you know Tom, that your California Ocean was loaded onto the Ship, the Danube Highway, at 11:48am today.
It will be here in the UK at the Port of Sheerness by tomorrow.”

Thats correct I was given the choice from a list of 15 when buying a new Mustang GT recently. I was able to pick LR66 WTF....

Change of plan - now 28th in the afternoon.
Has the dealer confirmed that you'll have 12 months of VED applied if collecting it at the end of the month?

Can they tax it for 12 months and 3 days?

That's one of the cons in buying privately at the end of the month. You've got to pay for the whole month even if you weren't the keeper for 28 days!

At £800 or £1200 a year it starts to make a difference.

I've had more than one vehicle purchased in the past with 12 months plus xx days VED charged ending up with only part month payment not a full month.

On new registrations, DVLA allow a few days grace. At least that's what happened with mine, 3 days free. You always get 12 months tax as it's part of the OTR package that you have paid for.

They don't do that any more. Whole months only.

"At £800 or £1200 a year it starts to make a difference" - but its not that amount, thats the first year tax.
The renewal will be £140 + £310, so you are loosing out by £37.50.

Its up to you, but having spent £50k + thats peanuts for the benefit of having the van for the easter weekend.

I'm not sure I understand that logic. VW aren't paying the first years VED - I am.

It is however smalls beans, but as they've messed me about for the best part of 6 months I'd rather them not get away with it.

It sounds like the vehicle can be taxed for 12M+ a few days anyway so it probably won't be an issue.
