** Important News: New Vehicle Registrations on Hold

We went in to a dealer today as we are looking to change to an ocean but I was told they are unable to take any orders at present?

Sounds ominous. Am a little frustrated at the lack of comms.

Thanks for the heads up

I was due to take delivery of our 204 DSG 4Motion next week and have today received this via email:

I have just received some communication with regards to engines on Non-Commercial Volkswagen Vehicles and I am afraid that yours is affected which in turns means that it is on hold and blocked from registration.
We have not been told why and the only communication from Volkswagen Brand is that no Californias, Caravelles or Shuttles with Diesel engines are to be registered or released until further notice.
There is a helpline from Volkswagen for customers who have questions or concerns and this is – 0800 093 0151 (Customer Services Centre).
I am happy to chat through this either in person or over the phone but as mentioned I do not know details or timescales at this time.
My apologies – I understand that this isn’t good news at the start of the year, I hope we will have more idea in terms of timescales etc soon.

I’m so disappointed - pleased to have been forewarned on this thread but was holding out hope that no news was good news for the 204. :(
Mine’s a 204 and I got the email.

[QUOTE = "Grant white, post: 256821, member: 15630"] Ciao a tutti,

That dealer may have simply run out of their allocation from VW. Try a couple more.

I was at Listers Coventry yesterday & they said they and other dealers still had some which were registered before the current halt on registering.
These vehicles are usually brand new so it's worth asking around

@Grant5 says he’s ordered a 150 dsg...

None of this makes any sense.

The lack of any news from VW is pretty disgraceful, 2-3 weeks on from when the story broke.
Totally doesn’t make sense to me as I’ve ordered the 150 DSG. To add to the confusion, I still haven’t received a reason from VW why the vehicle can’t be registered :headbang

Hi there, Just joined so I can pass on info that we’ve got through our dealer today (Liverpool dealership) our van (T6 Beach 150) has been ready and waiting for us since the beginning of December. We put off delivery for a week as my husband was away with work. By the time he got back we were advised that they could no longer deliver. Yesterday we received the email that others have had regarding conformity of production and were given a number to call to organise alternative transportation as by this point we had sold our car. They woman on the phone had no idea what we were on about.

Today we have been offered a combi van in the meantime and advised that our van will not be released until MARCH!!! At least.... that means our van will have been sitting in Liverpool unused for 4 months by the time we get it. I’m beyond disappointed.

Not excusing VW but in these times of mass hysteria and press vilification maybe VW think by saying nothing it will be damage limitation. Still disgraceful to its customers who are left in the dark.

Apart from the roof issue, still the best campervan by far (and I don't have rose tinted glasses).

I feel quite sorry for the dealers in this too - they know no more than us, can do nothing much to help the situation but are going to get the brunt of the complaints from customers - on top of this it's going to do nothing for their cash flow having vehicles sat around that they can't invoice.

I'm lucky in that I haven't sold my current car so will just keep it a bit longer than planned so it's not really causing an inconvenience, but I appreciate others aren't in this position so am really pleased to see that the dealers are trying to provide alternative transport, hopefully this cost will be passed on to VW.

When/who's was the last Cali to be registered - at this rate it could become a collectors item...

I did manage to have a conversation with someone at VW Commercials Customer Services who is going to contact my Dealershio and find out exactly why my vehicle is being held. What he did say was that there are only 2 reasons a vehicle would be withheld from registration, for safety reasons or for legal reasons. Nearly 24 hours since that conversation now and no further explanation offered yet.

Just spoke to my brother in law whose Cali was due just before Christmas, he has now been told it will NOT be before March !! Luckily he has been given a brand new Ocean as a loan vehicle until things are sorted out, I have told him to make the most of it and put as many miles on it as he can

It is a year since we picked up our T6 -I think if I was in the position now where I had ordered and it was there and I could not collect it I would say lend me a Ocean until it is ready to pick up I would make full use of it. If this is is not possible I would demand VW give my deposit back and they can stick the van. My relationship with the California would be over.

Just had the letter from VW, also confirmation that my van is built but cannot be released from the factory until the production conformity issue is resolved.

Best guess, registration in March...

Sounds like it might not be a quick fix. I wonder if March will slip to April, to May, June etc. at least you won't be putting miles on your own Cali, assuming you can all get a loaner

Hope you have a guaranteed price for it as cars seem to be depreciating by circa £250 a month minimum.

Well if it does spread in to April, May, June etc then there will be a lot of us all seeking protection against the extra VED that is payable from April onwards registrations for TDIs (first year rate VED).

For our 204 DSG it will be another £400 if it registered after April 1st.

I agree entirely.
But they have to realise that as soon as the issue arose customers get past the shock and immediate emotion becoming somewhat forgiving. Next step should be explanation and timescale.
But as more time passes without clarification from VW the more irritated customers become all over again. It's like rubbing salt into the wound.
Even if the explanation, solution and timescale cannot be delivered there should be more frequent updates direct and consistant to each customer

It may not apply as the VED uplift relates to emission level figure pre actual road test derived one, which is looking like what this delay is all about.
