** Important News: New Vehicle Registrations on Hold

If I have to keep the car for another 2 months I’m sure it will depreciate but it’s 2 1/2 years old already and I suspect the Cali would have depreciated far more... Also my car is 4 wheel drive fitted with full winter tyres so much better suited to this time of year than a 2WD California on summers.

I have mixed feelings. When I ordered the Cali I wanted March delivery so we’d have it when the weather is getting better. But having being told it would be January I started to get excited... now it looks like March again. I’m not in the position of some who had made plans around having the vehicle now. I really hope they get loan Calis until theirs are released.

However my feelings towards VW have changed hugely through this latest mess.

The changes only apply to new diesel cars, not vans I believe, unless I misunderstood

The Caravelle, California and Shuttle variants of the Transporter are classed as 'M1' which is 'passenger car', so my understanding is that these are all subject to this new charge.
That' correct

Yes to that but it makes a mockery of emissions legislation as thousands of vans are OK to pollute but hundreds of Cali's aren't??

Been to see dealer today.

They Seam to think it's an HMRC issue, blocking registration and import. They have a new one in the show room they are not allowed to sell as a result.

One potential glimmer of support is that there maybe a mobility support scheme being offered by VW for those due a van imminently who have been put on hold. This package was only released Friday so worth chasing up.

Unfortunately it’s down to the dealer to find a replacement vehicle so if they don’t have a Cali available then you end up with something else. We’re getting to borrow a transporter, arriving on Monday. It means we will have to cancel a few trips we’d planned but at least we’ll have transport.

Did I mention we sold our house to get this van? Haha!

Yep we sold my car and ended my wife's car lease in anticipation of a Jan delivery. Grrr.

As the block is in Germany and not confined to the UK I think dealers are just saying anything to take off the heat. They like the rest of us are in the dark and until VW make an official announcement we just have to wait. Someone in the VW board needs to be sacked and a mass clearout of some failed engineers to get back to the old ways.

That was our take. Dealers will be keen to transfer the blame away from VW. Shocking lack of comms.

When/who's was the last Cali to be registered - at this rate it could become a collectors item...

Mine was December 15th.... got to be a contender. So lucky to slip through. Obviously need to wait for a recall or whatever but better that than this confusion.

Sorry mistyped there. Should've been 5 Dec. Probably not the last....

We were 1st December, not quite the last as there were a few collections in the following couple of weeks between 4th and 15th.

Ours was registered on the 4th but road tax wasn’t sorted in time so it’s just sitting at the dealers now. Are there many others who’s vans are actually registered but not able to be collected?

Is it registered in your name?
Have you paid for it?
Are DVLA refusing to tax the vehicle, or is it the dealer who is telling you it cannot be taxed?

I am informed that it is VW Germany who are blocking the release of vehicles not yet handed over. The dealers are obviously under instruction and must comply. If the emissions are down to a recent change in software and settings hopefully all will be sorted once the German Authorities approve any changes.

If the poster has paid for the vehicle and is the registered keeper, I would have thought that the dealer is on very dodgy legal ground if they refuse to hand it over. However, if DVLA are refusing to tax the vehicle, the best place for the vehicle is probably on the dealer's forecourt.

And you could end up with a 67 plate van and not getting it until the 18 plate is out While I do not mind what pate is on my van when I buy it - I would not be happy with picking up a new van with an old plate

The point is Tom, they are stopping the vehicles from being registered, so there is no registered keeper.

Quick Bing translate:

Who knows how many others will be stopped all over Europe, and who knows how many will remain in Hanover after being produced with non-complying engines.
Who knows how many unhappy customers and how many shopkeepers will be forced to stop saying what...
In Italy There is not a significant audience that concerns California, there is not even a dedicated forum, and we must learn the news from those who, as in this spectacular forum, receive and distribute valuable information.
I thank you because in my expectation I have already learned a lot and I built a vision and a knowledge.

Look, I'm reading you but unfortunately I'm not very confident!

If there is any irregularity regarding emissions or other significant reason which conflicts with the vehicle being road legal the dealer cannot release the vehicle in under instructions from VW. I agree entirely it is woeful that VW have caused this but there is nothing buyers can do short of cancelling orders . It is not long ago Mercedes had to recall vehicles for emission issues too. The emission levels set by the EU are extremely difficult to achieve especially in the time scale the manufactures were given and the reality is the vehicles referred to under this nonsense are the cleanest they have ever been.
