Hi all, I have a 67 plate T6 petrol Ocean where the kitchen cupboard lights won't turn off using the lower switch on the right hand panel behind the passenger seat. After repeated pressing it occasionally turns off, but then comes back on as soon as the button is released. The camping mode switch above it still works fine and the under counter strip cycles through modes as expected.

There's several threads reporting issues with the strip light, but does anyone have a solution or reason for the cupboard interior lights being stuck on, draining the battery?

I don't know a fix, but you could pull the wires from the back of the switch to stop the battery from draining. I had (and still have) the strip light issue and VW couldn't fix it. It's actually okay if I leave it in the mode that comes on when the doors open, but if I change it, then it comes on and runs through the dimming to bright cycle continuously and won't turn off. VW told me to pull the wires if I continued having the problem.

I didn’t know we had cupboard lights - still learning :)

Update: the problem persisted when the two switches on the kitchenette were swapped over, so no problem with the actual switch. The switch works by interrupting an always on power supply, so it seems likely there is a CPU hidden somewhere that needs replacing. A dealer job.

Hi there, I have a 17 Plate (2018 Model Year) Cali, recently I had to swap out the old leisure batteries which went fine but ever since I did it the camping unit strip light only comes on with the main cabin courtesy lights when I unlock the vehicle (or turn the courtesy lights on with the switch under the camper control unit). The internal cupboard LEDs (for the cupboard below the sink) still work normally but the push button switch above it which used to control the camper unit strip light does nothing. It’s almost as if disconnecting the leisure batteries has “reset” the lighting control for that particular light back to some sort of default.. does it need reprogramming and if so how..??? Everything else seems to work fine btw..!!

There are two modes for the kitchen strip light. It seems that changing the batteries has switched to the courtesy light mode. To switch between modes press the button three times in quick succession. Details in the user manual, if you have it.

That’s amazing, thank you so much, I hoped that there would be a simple answer for a simple brain!! I do have a user manual somewhere (had the van from new..) but not sure where it is. Will dig it out though!! Does that mean the “normal courtesy” light runs off the leisure battery as well then..?? Thanks very much for your help, really appreciate it!!!!

As a rule, everything forward of the B pillar (in the cab) runs off the starter battery. Everything behind the front seats runs off the leisure batteries.
