My electric poptop won’t go down fully.

We have a 2020 T6.1 Ovean. The electric Poptop will not fully close on the passenger side. Although the control unit says it is closed. We are away camping so having to drive like that. It seems secure (only about 2 cms) I hope it doesn’t rain!

Has anyone else had this problem?

Assume you have checked that there’s nothing like an acorn fouling the mechanism?

I presume still under warranty? If so call VW assist, make it VWs problem, you shouldn't drive with it like that as the wind will get in through the gap & could force the roof up.

No, there’s nothing visible in the mech or in the Poptop itself.

I had this problem following a very windy night,cured by standing in the footwell and pulling down on the roof whilst having the roof the open / close button operated.I assumed the wind had caused a slight miss alignment. All good now; worth a try

Agree…… but take photos of roof canvas etc before they get their mits on it!

I had this issue, it was caused by the bungee I tied around the pop top stopping the hood from collapsing properly. I removed the bungee and then made an effort to pull in the hood/canvas into the cab fully before closing the last ten centimetres.

If you drive with that gap you will hear the wind resistance, its quite annoying.

I had that on mine (2017) - eventually turned out to be a small air lock (according to VW); cost a small fortune and the ‘fix’ was to cycle the roof 7 or 8 times…

Also worth checking if the latch has moved slightly

I still had the cargo net attached and even that added too much volume stopping it lowering completely

We had this on a rented (new) Ocean a couple of years ago. It was the front canvas / window not folding in properly at one side - but I’d guess you’ve had it up and down a few times to check.

Even a hair slide in the roof channel can cause this!

Unbelievably I have just got back from the garage who tell me that VW will not repair it under warranty as a gap is normal!!!
VW Customer Services here we come!

Could we see a photo please? Im struggling tho see how there can be 2cm gap and the roof locks still report to the control panel that the roof is shut. I would expect you to be deafened trying to drive by all the warning gongs going off.

Was it a cali specialist dealer or just an ordinary vw van one?

It was lookers Glasgow- VW California specialist- they tell me that VW wouldn’t authorise it and the gap is “normal”!

I would call out VW assist as it is not drivable. You wouldn't drive it if the bonnet was like that.

No the problem started recently. I have put it up and down several times but still the same. it says on the display it’s closed but isn’t. I can’t believe VW are telling lookers that the gap is within a normal tolerance

Would a dealer get a buyer for a van on their forecourt with a part-opened roof? I would know my dealership would fight my corner with VW if they would not authorise a repair. Lookers Glasgow needs to get its act together.
