Thanks For the clarification Dave. I think in that case that I will not bother with the gap insurance as I would be quite happy to wait in the event of the worst happening. Like you said its a judgement call and all our circumstances are slightly different.

Does anybody insure their Beach for business use?

I am a field sales manager, visiting different clients, and my Cali will be my sole transport. I understand there's lots of companies offering Cali insurance and lots of companies offering 'business use' insurance but I'm not as confident about both!

I do not insure mine as a Commercial vehicle" but by default, because of comfort insurance's ridiculously low mileage stipulations, it is. Apparently anything over 10,000 miles to Comfort is "commercial" and mine is insured for unlimited.

As the difference is about 30 quid I was not too fussed ... and it's worth paying because "I know I'm worth it .....:D

Sorry :( Just had to get it in :(

OK big health warning. Just taken my delivery of a NEW VW CALIFORINA BEACH and even VW won't insure it !!! Because it is "Category 50" apparently...given its cost and the fact it is not officially a camper because no fridge etc...
Gone with Adrian Flux who were brilliantly helpful...but at an astronomical £2500 because no other insurer (tried Comfort etc) would touch it because I want to use it commercially...Any ideas good VW people ??!!

Aviva for me 330ish for 10k miles, some business miles but not commercial as such.

Are you a very young driver?

Not young no sadly !! A working Mum of 44 with 5 kids !!! - hence the Cali seemed brilliant. Have all 7 of us able to go in 1 car in comfort but be able to work in it too. I'm a business trainer and business writer - I'm about as far from a big risk as you can get...Apparently none of this mattered it is the fact that the new Cali has been rated 50 - I tried to change it to just personal use but VW simply won't insure their own van apparently !!!!

I've had a T6 Transporter Kombi converted by JAS Conversions, but because I opted not to have a sink and hob fitted all but Adrian Flux won't touch it. I have a pop top, fridge and RIB bed. You would think in this day and age that not having gas and water (fire and flood!) would not be that difficult for an underwriter to comprehend. Anyhow, Adrian Flux have sorted me out and I have agreed value cover too. Fingers crossed I don't need it.

I was Quoted for an Cali ocean today by Comfort. £300 ish for mileage up to 10,000. £350 for unlimited. This was business and pleasure use. However would not offer any discount for membership to California club. They told me they only offer discount if you don't need business cover. Does that seem correct? They can insure up to one month before delivery of your vehicle. They didn't need reg number to give quote. Also it didn't make any difference wether it was a 150 or 204 bop model....

Just changed insurers from C&CC (Ageas) renewal £400.47 to Scenic (Axa) £278.64.
I have dropped legal cover as I get this with union membership. Cali is now my second vehicle & annual mileage is now 5000. Even so C&CC could only get it down to £309.19 by dropping personal possessions to £1500.
Scenic have better personal possessions cover, will cover laptops, mobiles etc whereas C&CC will not. Also has a £20 discount for new business.

Conclusion, as always is to shop around every year.
