Retrofitting 80 L fuel tank?

Aren’t HGVs limited to 90 kph in France?
And in the UK. Actually any commercial vehicle 3,500kgs and over, now includes most Motorhomes.
You may notice how they have slowed down in France as when you get there..

"As a general rule the drivers of courier vans under 3.5t are subject to limits of 50km/h in towns, 90km/h on open roads (80km/h in wet conditions), 110 km/h on dual carriageways (100km/h when wet) and 130km/h on motorways (110km/h when wet)."

Appears the increased AdBlue tank capacity (27L from 10L in the MY21 Cali) that is pushing front axle weights over the limits, combined with 199/204 motors and 4Mo.
If reference is to France, all single carriageways are 80kph limit, was dropped a couple of years back from 90kph. Also seem to be dropping some sections of Autoroutes from 130kph to 110kph if deemed an unsafe area - hills or bends.

T6 Adblue was 14ltrs tank (if memory serves correctly).

Last time we went to France. 90% of the Cameras were burned. We were on our bikes but you never know till you get to them if the camera is working and rear facing. Front facing is better as the tolerance is minute compared to the uk. I think only a couple of %. And now the limit is mainly 80kph. No speed limiter on the bikes.

Who knew an extra 10L of diesel could be so divisive.
All the options in the VW catalog have become divisive. Side effects of the virus, or compensations after the episode of b * xit ?
And we see that even people who are only at their first posts act like this.
Sad.

In the 1980s I had a Belgian acquaintance who owned a Kawasaki KZ 1300. He reckoned that he had done from Brindisi to the outskirts of Brussels in 15 hours with two half hour stops. He also said that he fitted a new rear tyre after the trip.
Hang on a minute...

This has got nothing to do with @Brindisi

My memory is 13 litres, but my memory seems to fade a bit every day.

Didn’t know I was replying to your post..Can you really get 800 miles from a 80 Ltr tank.? That’s fantastic.
Tell me, in what sense do you mean ‘fantastic’?

Jayne you're back again! (Although I preferred you previous avatar.) Your profile says 'looking to buy' but current pic shows you have a van. Or is it a bike. Confused.

People on here should learn to take some criticism, For heavens sake this is a camper van forum And not a matter of life and death.
Everyone has a right to their own opinion but it seems that when someone shows that opinion they are destroyed..If she thinks that driving 800 miles in a day is dangerous and wrong that’s her opinion, maybe she has a personal reason for thinking this..Now just leave her alone.

So I ride an R1 and my husband rides a Fireblade. I also own a car and my husband owns a car. I have passed both my advanced motorcycle and car tests. Why don’t I have the right to speak my mind and not get shot down immediately. I have personally seen what can happen when people do very high miles without taking the proper rest breaks. My picture shows me standing by a friends camper who we visited when we were in Spain. From the personal abuse I have taken on here I can now see what I can expect from people on the vwcalifornia forum.

Don’t you just love it when someone new starts poking the California hornets nest. Oh by the way it’s recommend that a single person doesn’t drive more than 500 miles in a day taking all the required necessary breaks.
Don't forget that has two 4.5hr periods when a minimum 45 mins break needs to be taken ie 10 hours driving takes a minimum of 11.5hrs clock time.

Information that I have is that Continental long distance drivers stop for 30mins every 2.5hours. That keeps them legal and attentive in practice.

@Jayne.L - I responded to your posts, and my personal apologies. It was not a personal attack or meant to be one. As with any forum you are free to express your opinions and we appreciate that. "driving more than x miles a day" is a very valid statement and we appreciate your opinion on that ... but calling all people on a forum Willy Wagers in your 5th post - well, don't think that went well. :)
I owe you a pint when we meet up at a biker meet or at a Cali club meet :cheers Thank you for being a part of the forum and looking forward to your contributions as you continue on the journey in finding your Cali.

Well, now to get this thread back on track before it gets pushed to the three cocks section :D

The above pictures are what e-bay gives if you search for the two different part numbers - the one ending in P the 70 L one and the one ending in F, the 80 L one.

Cannot notice any differences visually.

Also, the fuel sender/pump, if there is one in the fuel tank itself, is not listed separately, and all of it seems to be a part of the tank itself. No wonder it is so expensive.

For vehicles with the diesel heater, there is a third blue pipe which supplies the diesel heater.

None the wiser after all this search.

I am buying a 10 L external diesel container such as a rotopax and carrying that outside the van on a rear rack. Also, only required if you are doing Morocco or maybe Iceland. Otherwise sufficient fuel stations everywhere.

I'm quite surprised, during lockdown, VW hasn't seized upon the opportunity to offer a chargeable option on a smaller fuel tank. I think 10 litres would last me quite a long time....

Seems many of us who ordered 199/204 T6.1's with 4Mo, towbar and a few other options are hitting weight restrictions. VW are forcing changes to be made although my dealer said buyer can't select which option to remove. I wanted the 80l fuel tank but was told "Computer said , no". Has anyone retrofitted their T6/6.1 with the 80l version? Was the labour cost prohibitive?
20 l Jerry can and spout £25. End of. New one won’t leak and smell. Good luck!

We have an 80l fuel tank on our Beach. It's amazing......I filled the tank right up in November and the gauge has hardly moved since.
Hopefully you will get to use it soon. Diesel can go bad after around 6 months so it is worth keeping an eye on it.
