Safeguard doesn’t insure the beach (but their partner does)

It would appear SafeGuard offer a Forum Discount for SE and Ocean owners AND a Discount for Forum members who own a Beach through their sister company. So it would appear that there is no discrimination against either model , both are eligible for a Forum Discount just with different companies.

I thought it was silly Billy?
WOW! I am really struggling to get insurance sorted out. By far the cheapest is through Comfort and they are quoting me £470. The closest of any other company was £850 and online comparison yielded £1600. This is ridiculous. I'm not sure what it is about me that is forcing up the price. I am wanting 12,000 miles a year which the comfort one wont even go to. The insurance on the Ocean is cheaper! I'm 42 and have 9+ years no claims discount. The only other thing was a claim for a minor prang 3 years ago.

and it gets worse. I got a quote from caravan club of £700. I asked them to take of the claim I made and also reduce to 10,000 to see what the issue was and it didn't reduce by that much. I asked them if it was the price of the vehicle and they set it as 50,000 which took £100 off.

Could be post code?

I went with Safeguard as they gave unlimited number of days per year European travel, Europe wide breakdown and recovery (I know VW do but only 2 years recognised in EU) with unlimited mileage, no silly restrictions, all for about £100 less that my previous BMW 3 Series Xdrive cost.
Don't think that I got any discount.

Insurance costs have had a big hike recently so until next March I can't give a genuine comparison price.
My Daughter said that her's had gone up by over £200 when she renewed this month.

I thought I'd keep posting to this thread in case it is useful to other people. I just got a quote from elephant but I couldn't do it online so gave them a call and it turns out that because the vehicle is worth £55,000 they have to get special underwriting. This is probably why I'm getting no luck elsewhere. I did ask how much would the premium be if it was worth £50,000 and they said that went through and the premium would be £412 which I would accept at this moment. Anyone esle have problems with the value of their pride and joy?

I am with Safeguard and just looked back at the policy and it was insured at £62k, I have 123k miles per year and park on the driveway.

Policy cost if £247 per year.

I have a conversion and given my panel van has been modified, I have been careful with my first renewal after the modifications. There are a few specialist companies mentioned on forums and I've chosen to go with A-Plan on their Thatcham Scheme. It might be something to consider, not the same but sounding like you are having issues with general insurers?

If its a Beach it may be because it is maybe your only vehicle or has more than 5 seats. I was told that the Ocean was more likely to be a second vehicle so less risk. As insurers base their policy on risk seems we are at their mercy. Good luck.

My renewal has gone up from £254 to £265! I think I'm at that point on the age/risk graph which means low premiums a couple more years and they'll start to climb!

In case it helps, I called my ‘local’ office of NFU (main number said they couldn’t insure me) who sorted everything out - no dramas.

"123k" per year, when do up have time to park on your drive?

This is f***** beyond a joke now. VW wont insure me.

Thats insane.
Im with Admiral, 38 years old and my wife who is also 38 insured on the vehicle. I also insured my friend early in the year to help with a drive over to the alps and it cost us £25 extra and he's only 24.

It got underwritten in the end and paid 340 as agreed to go with them for my wife’s car and house insurance next year. Both were much cheaper quotes with more benefits. I used price comparison sites all the time but just goes to show that these do not work.

But there are many companies that will not insure the SE/Ocean for full use etc: . Should those members suffer?. What it boils down to in the end is the ambiguity of the Beachs Body Type classification which you can take advantage of on Channel crossings but possibly lose out on with specialist insurers. Swings and roundabouts in the end.

What do you mean by take advantage on channel crossings ? (Newbie here)

You can book as a high car as long as you don't use your registration number for booking, apparantly.

Just an update on insuring a Beach with Safeguard. They hope to have a new underwriter some time in 2018 where they will be able to insure the Beach and offer the same deal.

I will post here as soon as we have more information.
