Single Garage Parking

I've had a search and the last post on this subject seems to be 2015, but apologies if it's been discussed more recently....

I've just had a double garage built with two single doors, and I've just found out tonight just how tight it is having abandoned trying to get my Range Rover in there. The doors are the roller type and the size of standard single doors is 7ft sq. According to the dimensions I've seen the Cali should JUST fit. But does anyone regularly get a Cali into a standard single garage door or is it just too tight?

You should be ok on the height but I think you are about 6 inches too wide with the mirrors out & I am not sure that you gain that much when you fold them.

It was too risky doing it alone with no one checking each side to make sure I wasn’t going to catch and damage the mirrors. I decided to get rid of the 2 single doors and fit 1 large electric roller shutter door. Best £3k I have ever spent. I can now get the RRS, California in together with ease and can even squeeze my motorbike in between them both

We're looking to upgrade our (single) garage doors for similar reasons. By ordering a wider roller shutter and mounting it *behind* the opening rather than *between* the sides we will also gain precious extra inches of width (while sacrificing a bit of length) - if that makes sense.
Roller shutters also take up less space internally so you get more usable storage space for racking if that's useful.

Yep I did the same to maximize width. Lost about 4 inch in length but can still get the California in with about 6 inch spare. I fitted carpet (sad I know) around 1m high on the side walls and back wall too so that there is no chance of any damage to door edges or bumpers if I get too close .

Ha. Yep, we also had carpet underlay (and pipe lagging) strategically placed on the internal walls at the last place.

I reverse park mine in a twin single garage and exit via the sliding door. It’s fine provided you fold the mirrors at last minute. The bigger issue was height as had to move the up and over door up a couple of inches and lower the van 30mm in order to get awning clearance!

I wanted to maximise my internal height. We ended up with an Alutech insulated sectional door and motor which gave me more headroom than the other makes we had quotes for. It was also the lowest cost. Very happy with it.

Yes I'm already regretting getting twin doors rather than one, I think the twin doors definitely look better but as I'm finding nowhere near as practical......

Advice re garage door options for low roof

Hello all and thanks for some great advice from present and past threads, very helpful for us buying. Our lovely ocean is expected in October, build week 35 (next week!). Much earlier than expected so we are quickly trying to work out how to get it in our low garage (2150mm but door hangs below...

Another option for people building a new garage or modifying an existing one to fit a Cali is to go with a sectional sliding door on tracks. Henderson make top and bottom hung brackets with a curved ground rail . The only problem with ours is that it was built by the old owners with the external side of the garage opening at 1.93m high despite the internal being 2.2m.

With a single door it just fits with the mirrors folded. Drive in as close as you can, get out and check gap alignment & away you go. The sensors are on solid of course. The measurements in the brochure are spot on so you’ll really know if it fits.

We had a sectional roller door (4 sections) by Hormann at the last house. This was pre-Cali but couldn't accommodate our LWB T5.

The door was excellent, but as it unrolled horizontally into the garage the internal rails obstructed a lot of access / storage space. This would be less of an issue on a flat roof garage, but we would otherwise have used the roof space and side walls more effectively.
Next time we'll go for a shop front style roller shutter. These are a bit less attractive, but take up much less space internally.

I've measured my entrance and the access width is 2200mm and the height is 2170mm so I'm not sure if I'll be able to squeeze the Cali in?

Thanks there looks to be more width spare than height, do you have to fold the mirrors to get it in?

yes I do fold the mirrors and unless it is particularly tight to the left hand side, I have to use the sliding door

Many thanks, I have plenty of width to spare inside as the internal width its c 2800mm it's just the 2200mm access width that makes me wonder...

I had electric garage door made to measure by zzap. Rolls up above the lintel to give more height. Cost around 1200 quid I think. If I had a double garage with 2 single doors I'd have to modify it

Just got the van out and measured the clearance for a 2440mm entrance with the mirrors folded.

left clearance: ~200mm
right clearance:~120mm

so your garage width of 2200mm should fit but would be extremely tight. Good luck

Many thanks for measuring that, I can fit my Range Rover in and I would've thought the Cali would be narrower, perhaps not

With the slope on our drive it was not possible to quite get under the garage door.
So I extended the track backwards into the garage so the door would push back just behind the lintel.
Now I have a mini electric crane on either side of the door to hoist the whole door's front end up 30mm - and in she goes... (just !!)

This is the space I need to squeeze my Cali into, as you can see the Range Rover which is taller and longer (albeit with air suspension so can be dropped slightly) but I'm really worried about the width....

After counting the bricks, your height looks close but should work.
But I think it really is too tight width-wise between the brick piers, even with the mirrors folded.
I can't think of any other solution than adapting the brick piers unfortunately

It's 2170 in height, which I think will be okay, the Cali is a fair bit narrower than the Range Rover, but I'm guessing it's the mirrors of the Cali which are likely to protrude moreso than the RR
