Social isolating - Not!

Unfortunately, the reality is that we will not be able to go anywhere over at least the next 3 months. I had naively thought that I would be OK going to campsites in Millie but just to be sure contacted the campsite on the Gower we had booked for a few nights in Easter week. They assured us all was fine and they were looking forward to seeing us. I would be very surprised if we are able to go there now and even day trips walking or with the bikes seem a bit unlikely now.
Things may change rapidly, here on Anglesey there is a guy currently collecting old cars to use a blockades to campsite/touring/caravan park entrances.

There is growing anger locally about the number of people who have arrived in North Wales over the last few days.

I know some locals there and they are going crazy over the number of visitors today.
Apparently busier than some bank holidays...
They want action asap to keep people off and out of the Gower...

I guess everyone wants to socially isolate somewhere nice in their Cali, Caravan or Mobile Home. Strangely, we don't have that problem in Huddersfield!

Going for a walk is not a high risk activity,. Key is keep perspective stay sensible and stay safe. This will go on for months, maybe a year or more, I for one cannot stay at home that long.
Long as you don't stop for petrol, to buy any food , come into contact with locals ... This is not what I seen today - Stay Away from Rural areas they don't want you !

I posted on fb y’day how annoyed I was that a neighbour on return from holiday had gone to work last week instead of working from home. All whilst another friend has a hubby with cancer, prostate op last week and is petrified she’s going to ‘kill’ her hubby by bringing the illness home. Yet another friend said ‘well said’ against my post, but today had her adult kids and grandchild around for Mother’s Day. I was gobsmacked.
Then a further friend said she was going to take her elderly neighbour shopping. I said, no, get a delivery and take it round and have a cuppa 2m apart. Oh no she said, she needs to get out.
Now I have a friend with a 17 year old who has started with symptoms.
When oh when will the numpties get a grip?
I think my next post will see me having less friends and more ‘ex friends’ as I am losing patience rapidly...

I live in a rural area with lots to do on my doorstep so not an issue for me.

We live on the edge of popular moorland which is a walking hotspot. it was so busy yesterday, busier than boxing day, easter sunday, new years day, the traditional peaks. and still, people cramming their cars in every inch of parking space, and big crowds on the paths.

Then heard that family members were also not complying with the advice we've been given. I'm known to be quite placid, instinctively avoid ruffling feathers, but I spent mothers day ringing round the guilty parties and giving everyone both barrels, including my mum. Made at least four people cry, as well as my daughter who had to listen to it all.

I then finished the day by apologising for my behaviour once everyone had got the message. Some people get it, some take a while to get it, and some need kicking into getting it. This is the time to put aside niceties.

My wife works on the nhs frontline, my job for the next three months is to keep her sane. If even half the plans being made in the background come to be needed we are all in for a terrifying time. Lets hope not.

Thankfully sounds like everyone here gets it.

Just to give you some idea Matlock today 4:30 ish . Busier earlier, all sat outside the closed pubs and cafes
We live on the hill looking down onto Matlock Bath which is this photo. We had the dog out on the hill and couldn't believe the sight of all these people milling around close together.
The local car boot sale even went ahead. Just crazy.
Anyone who thinks you are isolating in a camper van needs to get real. You aren't and you are putting others at risk. As Welsh Gas said, the penny takes longer to drop for some and for some it doesn't appear to drop at all.

If that is the case, then having arrived and seen all of the cars, wouldn’t you have liked to think they would have turned around and gone home
We went to walk the dogs on Sunday in a regular haunt, usually only other dog walkers and easy to keep distance. At the weekend it was absolutely rammed, car park was full to capacity and large groups everywhere, most without dogs.

We turned around and went home, sad dogs but not worth the risk. People just aren't thinking.

People still making unnecessary journeys - including this guy - near Taddington parked up in the Peak District in a Cali Ocean. Hope it is no one here as they should know better

I think people are taking the government’s instruction that you should only exercise once a day to be you must exercise once a day. I’ve seen more people out and about than ever before.

Common sense and Intelligence don’t always go together. The Darwin Awards will be busy .
I don't think common sense and intelligence ever go together, my brother is super intelligent with not an ounce of common sense.

Even so you are not meant to make any unnecessary journeys - travelling in a car is unnecessary. The Police have been issuing warnings and turning people back home from designated parking spots in the Peak District when they park-up to exercise or walk their dogs. Know what you mean though - haven't seen so many people out exercising

Just been on the regional news that people are still visiting the Peak District. We are really lucky that within two or three minutes walk we are in the countryside to get our exercise and take the hound out.

The advice is to exercise once a day (walking/running/cycling etc) but only in your own locality. The problem seems to be people who drive out somewhere miles from home to then do their once a day exercise!

Exactly, and then dump their rubbish out of the car. Ok, I can accept (just about) sandwich wrappers and plastic water bottles, but come on, used tissues?!

But until you stopped so close to them they were isolated & presumably you had a really good reason for being there?

It seems a bit rough on those who live in town centres.

We went out on the tandem triplet today - a nice ride along the Ravensbourne and Pool Rivers. Roads were empty, the park was busier, but not busy.

Yes, I agree and totally sympathise (our daughter lives in central London) but the problem is city people who decide to head to the Peak District or The Lakes to go walking. It’s not the walking or other exercise that’s necessarily the problem, or indeed the location itself if everyone kept their (social) distance, it’s what would happen if they had an accident either on the way or whilst out walking which would then put additional strain on the already overworked NHS.
It‘s a difficult situation but we must stay at home for the good of everyone

You don't get it - the rules are you stay at home and there is no unnecessary travel. Which part of that is hard to understand ? I didn't go anywhere near him as he had parked up his Cali and wasn't there. And yes I do have a good reason for being there as I live here.
