South-West coast UK trip / meet Slimbridge

The lady at the backery warned me also.
We were carefull but while sitting on a bench at the waterside next to us a couple sat down eating fish&chips and giving some fries to what seemed to be a not even 2y old girl witch looked pretty dumb to me to start with .....on top of that they started trowing fries in the water!
Hmmm, they were asking for trouble. In some areas of the UK there have been reports of the gulls becoming quite aggressive. One of my wife's chums had a seagull try and snatch a sandwich out of her mouth as she was taking a bight! They can be very unpleasant.

As we are trying to adapt the UK lifestile and driving on the left starts get a habbit we tryed out some tipical UK delecious sweet food.
Got a saffran bowl and some other things i forgot the name of . Got in a small bakery locals use not on the seafront in the tourist shops
The one in the midle row to the left , rocky r.... something , and the one in the midlle row second from the right.
I wanted to try them all...!

Ah, the old cake and gin diet. Perfect. :thumb

I would highly recommend Lynton and Lynmouth too if you pass them on the way back out of cornwall @hotel california

They call Lynton "Little Switzerland" and for good reason, beautiful. :)

Thankx for the tip but we are out of the Exmoor since yesterday , tomorrow we are heading to Lands End itself than Lizard Point and up to Plymouth and hopefully ending at a campsite in Paignton (out the ACSI guide)

Had 5 botlles of our favorit rosé wine (from California :D) with us and just emptyed the last botle . Just to say only drink wine when on a campsite , not while freecamping ;)
Three botlles in Slimbridge and now one each evening here...
Need to find more unused space to store some botlles.

Pop in to any Sainsburys or Tesco and they'll sell that Wim - it's popular here too :)

Hope you enjoy lands end. It's not that interesting (in our opinion) but if you take the coastal walk up to Sennen Cove then it makes it worthwhile. Check out the shipwreck on the way.

Hope the weather will be kind.

Have you tried a proper Cornish pasty Wim? Meat and vegetables wrapped in pastry. Very tasty and filling.

If you are going to South Devon then a good place to visit is Bigbury on Sea with Burg Island and The Pilchard pub. Higher up, Dartmouth is really worth a detour and you can get a ferry over to Kingswear and that road will take you up to Paignton. Paignton isn't my first choice of place to stay though. One of the best sites we have stayed at is just outside Exeter. It's called Crealey Adventure park but don't be put off by it being a children's adventure park. The campsite is really well laid out, the adventure park closes at 6 but we didn't find it noisy even during the day, and the shower block is the best we have seen, even has underfloor heating which may be a comfort in the current weather.

Did that yesterday one with beaf and stilton ...very nice !

This site is great and this time a year very peacefull , but the thing i never seem to understand is when a campsite invests in renovation (as it was here recent) why don't they put insulation arround the piping of the heated water in the sanitairy block?
It takes ages to have hot water coming out the tap ending up in a lot of waterlos.
Also can't understand why they keep placing those push buttons for water in the showers that only give water 10sec. witch bodypart can you wash in 10sec....?
You should say now a days a sensor type of tap should be the standard when renovating . Guess the ran out of money for these and pipinginsulation.

All in all a good site doh , i'm just pushing the boundries here..

Have you visited Tintagel, the legendary site of King Arthur’s castle? There’s a camp site right on the headland in the village (just drive right to the end), with some great cliff top walks and Merlin’s cave below. And the castle itself.

There is also the very interesting Camelot Hotel, have a drink in there as the sun goes down in the evenings....

You must visit if you haven’t!

@motacyclist , drove past Tintagel ....
Today we are of on the other side of the coast

Here’s another on the south coast - Polruan Holidays & Camping. There are wonderful views of Fowey and the harbour.

You can walk down the hill and get the little ferry across to Fowey, we’ll worth a visit. The is also a little pub by the ferry where you can have a meal and gaze out at the harbour

If you are going to the Lizard today and fancy another pasty, Ann’s Pasties are about the best in Cornwall (I used to live in Truro / Falmouth so know the area well).

As has been mentioned, if you are heading up to Devon later, I’d recommend spending time in Dartmouth rather than Paignton, in particular the Dartmouth Arms!

Don't forget to try a glass of Cornish Mead.

witch bodypart can you wash in 10sec....?.

A subject for a separate thread? Hmmmm perhaps best if we don't :)

You'll need a month in Cornwall to follow all these fantastic tips, but at least it's great information for us all.
Enjoy !

Just did a walk on the coastal path from the village of Lizard to the Lizard point and the lighthouse .
Must say much more appealing then Lands end !
Now having a snack in the Cali

Lizard Point was great we saw a parking in the village and got on it . Started to walk and it was quite a walk on the coastal path to get to the Lizard point/Lighthouse but what a nice walk it was , beautifill scenery . Than seeing Lizard point all the cars parked up just nearby i was glad we did the walk and saved the parking fee. Instead i put a donation in the National Trust box :thumb

If you don’t fancy cooking or want to go to a proper pub for a beer, go round the corner to the Punch Bowl and Ladle at Penelewey, on the way to Feock. Turn right at the Shell garage and it’s down the road on the left. Can’t miss it, a lovely thatched pub.

If you are heading to Devon via Plymouth in the morning, I would urge you to drive past the Punch Bowl and Ladle and take the King Harry Ferry across to the Roseland (takes 5 minutes). It’s quicker anyway than driving via Truro and far nicer. Do a slight detour to St Mawes if you have time. Roseland is one of the most beautiful parts of Cornwall and very different to the ruggedness you will have seen so far. You can pick up the A390 via Tregony and head towards St Austell and up to Plymouth.

I would recommend that you strike Paignton off your list and slowly follow
the coast up to Plymouth.
Head over to Roseland, take the King Harry ferry, Portscatho, head up to
Mevagissey ,Pentewan. and if you like the series Poldark then Charlestown,
before you head out of the beautiful county.
Just a tip by the way. :thumb

There are some very nice Tin mines in remote and that area and a couple of museums which tell the story of Cornwalls mining industry. Bottalick mines are well worth a look.
Fabulous place. Verywonderful atmosphere
