Thinking of buying new wheels and tyres, sportline with tyres brand new £928
What would my old wheels with tyres be worth to sell?? They've done 9000 miles, wheels are unmarked
And which wheels do you think would look best on white van, black or silver

Also do sportline fit ok? I've seen or heard about fitting over disks, mines a 2015 180

I had Sportlines (the previous design to the one pictured above) on my 180 SE
I noticed the T6 150 and 204 seem to both have the larger 180 brakes so would imagine the new design would fit fine over the brakes.

In regards to the OP's question I have a white T6 and I fancy the all black satin finish, my previous experience with diamond cut wheels has not been great in terms of corrosion so I tend to steer clear of them now

A friend mentioned diamond cut corroding, so best with all black then if they do them?

Is it only the older style they do in all black, not diamond cut? Perhaps might be best to forget and leave originals on there

I'm considering the new Sportlines in Silver having given up on finding the previous shape which I still prefer.

There also seems to be a black with silver & bi-colour silver with anthracite (both pictured above) & I'm sure I've seen gloss black too - I think they'd be best on yours.

Have a look at Completed Items on eBay to see how much yours have actually sold for recently - I'd expect £500-700 ?

£500-575 for yours.

So is it best just to get the all black ones in the older style then, worried about corrosion on diamond cut, I can get new with tyres for £928 fitted

If you can get original black sportlines then go for it. I looked some months ago but there were none around in 18" so I ended up with a nice set of delivery mileage Devonports with tyres for £540. I would never get VW diamond cut alloys again after what happened to a previous set, they just don't hold up over time.

Two people replied saying they think the new version is also available in solid black & you've found the previous in black yourself too.

As it's a T5.1 then arguably perhaps the previous shape would look more factory / OEM, but it's a totally subjective choice & there are no rules.

Make some phone calls, take a decision, post a picture.

I was told the T5,1 sportline wheels in black are now discontinued, luckily I managed to get one of the last sets.
Im not a fan of the new T6 sportline wheels and have heard on the T6 forum there have been problems with the finish on some wheels.
Have you thought about having your wheels powder coated in black?

Not going for diamond cut, will look for older style in black, thanks everyone

Diamond cut are fine, until you kerb them. That's when they start to corrode.
But then alloys in general are great until kerbing.

You can always have them refurbed once they start to look tired.

I have to disagree, mine weren't kerbed and the spidering appeared along some of the spokes. I spoke to a number of VW employees and they confirmed there is a problem, but not one VW will admit to.

Probably best not to assume people are idiots when they say they had a problem with their diamond cuts and suggest it was self inflicted!

No need to be rude - you're making a few assumptions yourself there.

I'm not being rude just letting it be known I didn't kerb my bloody wheels!!!!!

I quite like the older sportlines, these in matt black would look great on your Cali...

You could always powder coat your Thunders saving you the cost of tyres...
I know these are Devonports but you get the idea, quite a transformation for a bit of anthracite and would look great against the white...

Or if you're happy to go non VW then a set of Platin P69 alloys (TUV approved and full weight loading) in matt black would look great as well. Come in 17 or 18" and great value...

It's not limited to VW is all makes that have issue with diamond cut and it's been the same since I can remember the wheels on my mates Series 1 Escort RS turbo!

My M3 had loads of issues but that was worst as they weren't diamond cut and was a very expensive ball bearing process that BBS use that couldn't be replicated.

It's basically when there is access through the lacquers to the alloy allowing it to corrode creating 'spiders' and clouding, whether it be from a curbing, stone chip, tracking machine, wheel balancing etc.

I would say that I would choose them if you where going to only have them a few years and the diamond cut on these wheels are the basic process so even if you did have to refurb them, they would look ok

Seaview, chill out.
My answer was in general terms. I accept their could be a faulty batch coming out of Volkswagen. Believe me, i don't trust anything Volkswagen say.

However, my Porsche has diamond cut alloys and they have held up pretty well. They have some marks and slightly corrosion on the lip of one rim, but otherwise not bad considering they are a few years old. Diamond cut, perhaps show the defects more.
I wouldn't put off the O/P buying diamond cut if thats what takes his fancy, they are expensive to buy and maintain, but in my opinion look great.

All alloys will need some TLC from time to time. :thumb

Does this help @Leaky ?

Not brilliant photoshopping, as a bit of rushed, but gives you an idea....

Wow thanks, I'm thinking more of the older style ones now in matt black, could you photo shop that please
Also just another quick question, my tyres are 235/55 r17
Quote was for sportline wheels and 255/45r18. Is that ok?
