Standard Vehicle Security

I've tried the search but to no avail.

Comfort Insurance are asking if my vehicle is fitted with a Thatcham Cat 1 Immobilisor. Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on the standard vehicle security system. My vehicle is a 2018 Cali Ocean.

Thought it was easier to ask here than ring the dealer and get "I'll look into it for you sir!!".

What is it with these insurace companies? they must have a register of factory fitted immobilisers.

Your making a declaration of the vehicle spec so I’m afraid you have to tell them not the other way round.

Yes but AFAIK no-one can buy a Cali that doesn't have a Thatcham alarm. So why do they ask? They might as well ask you to declare that your Cali has fully-closing doors and a key-operated ignition switch.

I'm with Wongo on this one, what IS it with these insurers?? :D

I’m afraid I shall have to disagree. They ask loads of numpty questions and one day systems will be up to the task of monitoring every vehicle for every spec change. They aren’t yet.

Well anyway, if anyone is searching on this question in future and this thread pops up, the answer for our purposes is really quite simple:

If your VW California was manufactured since September 2005 then yes it does have a combined alarm/immobiliser to Thatcham cat 1 specification fitted as standard.
