After years of suffering (and just losing the spring clip retainer when swapping a bulb) I’m swapping the H4 unit in my beach to the H7 unit on the ocean / velle.

I know it comes with the factory bulbs but want to upgrade the bulbs before installing. I know I need 4x H7s but not sure about the rest.

Does anyone have a list of the bulbs the unit takes? I found a great thread for the T5 but can’t find the same for the T6.

Thanks

I found this but you may want to verify it. It came from auto doc website

Thanks @Ocean Spirit, much appreciated.

After a bit more digging for anyone who needs it in the future this thread is perfect:

Very good idea ! Are you going to make this swap yourself, or at the dealer? Just 2 days ago I asked my dealer what it might cost, and they couldn't answer me. I have to go see the mechanic again.

I upgraded the H7's with Osram +200% bulbs (even better than the 150% version that were in).
DRL's were upgraded by LED bulbs W21W with no problems.
I haven't changed the indicator bulbs as I tried ones in the rear and got bulb failure indication on dash. Could have cured with resistors but chose not to. Annoyingly Aglint white LEDs in the reversing lights (tested in rear indicator) worked OK with no error but needed yellow version which I couldn't source)
I haven't put LED's in sidelights as access is difficult when headlights are fitted.

Whatever you fit I'd suggest that you do a plug in test before bolting everything in as the Canbus is very sensitive on VW's

@Loz did a very good bulb fitment guide some years back, I had a have a search but got no picture on the thread that I found (too old?).

I’m paying 599 installed and coded at a local specialist, plus another 40 or so for Osram Nightbreaker 200s (x4 )

As I managed to break a H4 I’m letting someone else do the install :) I’m doing pretty much the same as you. I did think about the sidelights but as the van is generally always on Auto lights, it’s either DRL or dipped. Indicators I’m happy to leave the factory bulbs in there. I’ve seen mixed reports on the DRLs though - same bulbs throwing the dash error on some vans and not others. Will probably just get the Osrams and try them as they’re pretty inexpensive.

I'd recommend LED DRL's as they transform the dim standard bulb into a normal looking DRL.

H7's just push in/pull out, no clips to worry about. Bulb will pull out with the plug still attached --for future reference if you need to replace one.

I absolutely will - but my biggest challenge seems to be getting the DRL. Amazon are pushing everything to Wednesday delivery and the van is in at 9am so really needed delivery tomorrow. Not going to happen unless I can find some locally.

Just as a follow up, I had some new H7 lights fitted just before christmas. I went for the Osram Nightbreaker +200s. Overall, it’s a big improvement over the H4s with +150s. The beam pattern is just so much better. I just wish I’d done it years ago.
