Tyre pressure

Yes it belongs to a 2015 Beach (T5) and it includes plate to fix to floor rails. It is dark grey. I can take pictures when I get home. It is immaculate as we got it from VW in Oct (replacement for our original climabox which broke)
I don't mind posting or you can arrange courier to collect. Not sure how much these go for (I need to do some research). What is your offer please?

There is one on gumtree for £150 you can see it yourself but it has been used albeit it says only a few times I would say £200 if you could arrange delivery would be fair but you can let me know rather than keep adding to this thread! I have just fitted standard Cali wheels and tyres back on my Cali and looked at the pressures on the label in the drivers door and this raises a question:

Is the label California specific or is it a T5 label. I ask because if its a T5 then i guess all the fitments would be part of the load and therefore i should use the loaded pressure. If its a Cali specific then i can use the lower pressures when it is empty.

Any tech out there with advice please.
 
I'm sure VW will have managed to differentiate between the Cali and a standard T5 so go with the recommendations on the sticker.
Could be possible stickergate if they haven't. Yet another possible legal action?;)

I have been in ours (Bristol) a few times and asked some pointed questions and wasn't overly impressed with the answers.
The main thing that annoyed me about them was the "make a booking and leave the car with us, we will go over the whole car and tell you what needs attention" approach rather than a more practical "Sure we can change the tyres while you shop" that I was expecting.
Exactly Loz! I had the wheels changed front to back at a tyre place, not because I’m lazy but having many years experience of truck driving I know that ally rims can get stuck on and these had. To combat the problem of inflation I got a pumper upper (is that the technical term?) that runs off the battery not an internal 12 volt socket and a separate pressure gauge; belt and braces! Also got a decent spider wheelbrace as the VW one doesn’t look up to the job.
 
I was concerned about getting the pressures correct; after all the tyres are the most obvious things to fail, so I got a good quality tyre gauge and a Ring Heavy Duty Inflator. This attaches to the battery with alligator clips. Does the job but a bit fiddly.

The label is Cali specific, well its different to my T5.1 sticker at least.

Hi, is it definitely the case that the label is Cali-specific? So if we go away camping just the two of us we should use the light laden row of the sticker, not the heavy laden? Currently my van (new to me as of 4weeks ago) is running 255/45R18s at 45psi all round whereas for just the two of us should be 44/39.
I can’t see how you would ever be able to fill a Cali with “8 people and lots of luggage” as displayed on the sticker - hence I’m suspicious that the sticker is not Cali-specific - and also covers things like Caravelles - and we should all be running the “heavy” settings to account for the weight of the camping equipment. Suspect my van’s previous owner thought the same way

I run the ” heavy setting “ all year round. The only thing we add when going camping is water in tank and fresh food in fridge, so about 40kgms.
Tyre wear on Michelin Cross climate is in excess of 20,000 miles all round on a 4Motion, changing the tyres at 3mm tread depth or sooner .

Sorry Loz, I've found the staff at the Watford Costco very helpful, and well informed. Yes the choice of make is limited, but the prices can be good. No influence at all course. Also, l believe in trying to help support the little local businesses. Costco's HQ is in Watford. The town has just lost Debenhams and John Lewis, we need to keep the town economy ticking over.

Thanks WelshGas, I must say that was my instinct to stick with the "heavy" setting, therefore I don't think the sticker is Cali-specific, I think it's generic for passenger carrying variants of the T5. Good to hear you are getting good tyre wear with the settings you use
 
If anyone wants to check if their tyre pressures are adequate, a little method I head from an Australian.

1. Dry day.
2. White chalk stick.
3. make a broad chalk strip across the width of each tyre.
4. Go for a drive 5 miles or so.
5. Examine the strip on each tyre.

Chalk worn in the centre - Tyre pressure too high.

Chalk worn on the shoulders - Tyre pressures too low.

Adjust pressures and repeat until you get even wear across the tyre.
 
Tyre pressure indicator cards/stickers are something to keep in mind sure , but the indicated pressure on the tyre itself is also important as you could have exrta heavy duty tyres fitted or winter tyres that need diffrent pressure setting than the sticker advise. I ask my tyresuplier what the recomended pressure is :thumb . Mind that i go to a decent tyreshop and i trust him.

Not sure I agree there HC. The tyre will be marked with the maximum safe inflation pressure (i.e the safest you can inflate to without risking a burst - with hopefully a good safety margin). Since a given tyre is obviously made for/can be fitted too many different vehicles, then it is down to the vehicle manufacturer to determine the safe inflation pressure that works for a given vehicle dynamic characteristic, at a given load. So I'd trust the sticker over what is written on the tyre every time. Just I suspect the sticker can be a little bit ambiguous on a Cali

Agree though that the tyre supplier who fits extra heavy duty or winter tyres should have a good idea what pressure they should be inflated to (in fact you'd hope they shouldn't really be offering to fit them if they don't know what pressure to inflate to)

I like WelshGas's chalk stripe method as well, that would seem to give the perfect inflation pressure for your particular vehicle at your particular loading and your particular dynamic driving style
 
@rich11235 , thats exactly my point .
If one fits cheap tyres (no heavy duty as a Cali supose to have) and then look at the door sticker he wil overload them.
I wanted to say the indication on the tyres is a thing you need to look at , not just the doorsticker allone.
 
A normal passenger car, including most SUV tyres will only go up to 3,45 bar.
My Bridgestone Cargo tyres may be inflated up to 3,95 bar. Just a little different.
I don't like less than 3,5 bar on my tyres, so I really need at least 102 load rating, and tyres up to 4 bar pressure.
