VW California 180 DSG 4Motion additional costs

I was having a rant as I have just purchased my California 2 weeks ago put it in for service needs a cam belt change, new discs all round and pads (£1300) and wondered if I should be looking for some sort of compensation from the guy I bought it from. But took it down as figured perhaps I am????

I had an RAC inspection and none of this was picked up, Naivety on my side perhaps.

Cambelt is 4 yrs or 80,000 miles whichever comes first.
How many miles done? I would suggest if it is low milage then that is the reason the pads and discs changed due to corrosion of the discs damaging the pads, even if not worn, making it unsafe to use the old pads with new discs.

U lot know ur stuff ....only done 28000, I wish I had known before buying so would have built it into the cost.....will know for next time.
Nice new cam belt ,discs and pads for me then....

Another question , why is there a cup holder and 12v socket behind the sliding door that you can only get to with the seats pulled forward but its in the back unreachable. Seat back or Bed down cant see it.....
What's this for??
Thanks

No need to get discs & pads done by a main dealer - shop around. theres only about £250 in parts.

I would also get a second opinion as to whether discs & pads actually need doing.

I had a MX5 once that the main dealer said Pads were 80% worn at 15k miles 80% worn at 30K miles same thing at every service all the way up to 85k miles where they were only 70% worn - took the car up to 110k before I replaced them.

If you slide the seat back a bit to fit the 5th seat in it becomes useable.
Its actually a handy place to tuck a phone in to charge when leaving the van unattended. Ours has a phone charger in it permanently - the kids are unable to leave the house without an iPhone attached.

Like Andy said it is quite useful. I use it for all sorts with one of these. Plugs in and sticks on pillar with Velcro. Has the advantage of s switch in top so I can kill it to avoid any drain if not hooked up.
