What have you bought for your Cali today :-)

Does anyone use a solo stove both at home and when camping at all? We rented a fire pit a few weeks ago, and didn't realise all the smoke was drifting straight into the van - took weeks for the bonfire smell to go away, so I love the idea of a smokeless fire.
Currently looking at the ranger version, but would be interested to hear anyone else's experience/s.

Thanks,

Matt
We hired something similar from a campsite that we stayed in. We couldn’t stop raving about it. The campsite provided wood pellets which was also really fun and why I thought we didn’t stink of smoke. Then a neighbour brought out his solo stove for our jubilee street party, which I assume is the bonfire version. It was fab, and got so hot. I think they are great for home but surely too bulky or heavy for the campervan? Is the ranger version much smaller? Photo is of the fire from the camping trip.

Try using hotties

smokeless logs, burn hot and for a good time (they are dense and heavy )

put one or two on the BBQ after you’ve finished cooking, will last hours and give off decent heat.

edit:
I can fit 6 of these inside my Webber go anywhere BBQ when travelling, cheapest place I have found them : Aldi ( in autumn / winter)

The stuff I ordered arrived within 2 days:thumb however it transpired that the compact wheel brace socket was missing from the set so I could not fit the Sparesafe. After a couple of emails and a quick phone call with Shayne @CampervanBits yesterday he sent me the missing part which arrived today…………..Sparesafe now fitted:thumb

So this is to say thank you publicly to Campervanbits for prompt service :)
Nick and the guys and gals at the club shop are fantastic. Customer service and advice are first class whether online or at the shop itself.

Oh no, I just love it when everything, including me, smells like a bonfire. Weird I know!

Me too. My preferred morning brew-up is usually on a Kelly kettle or even a tiny wood gas stove, despite having two easier methods of boiling water (and often a campsite bar that serves perfectly decent coffee!)
Haha, I get the same feeling using our Trangia actually……..especially when thinking how bonkers expensive Camping Gaz is :D

I must be the only miserable bugger who hates camp site fires.
Go to a lovely little site like 3 cliffs in summer with a cracking view and get chocked out with every Tom Dick and Harry burning pallets.

I wish they restricted the use of them, like France or Switzerland where they have a designated burn area…

Yes, a designated area so people who aren’t so keen are spared. Even as a bit of a pyromaniac I can go with that.

Yeah, the little alcohol burner is amazing. I use one in the bottom

of my Cobb when I want a quick high heat (like for cooking breakfast) and don’t want to have to wait for charcoal to start. I just bought the .5 litre trangia safety bottle as I was fed up carrying the 1 litre bottle. Theses bottles are very safe and dispense 1 measure of fuel at a time.

I realize that our luggage space in the van will be quite tight so I wont drag our Weber Go Anywhere with us through Europe this year. Instead I ordered a Fennek 2.0 with drip stand, plancha and a bag. https://www.fennek-grill.de/produkt/fennek-2-0/
I have a kind of little baby version of this, a Firebox stove. Can burn any fuel in it and you can clip in a Trangia alcohol burner or the gas burner. Packed down it’s almost flat and only 5x8 inches dimensions. I bought the stainless steel one when it came to the UK, but now they also do a titanium version and have introduced a flexible larger one, the firebox freestyle.

They have a great website with quality accessories (good for all types of stoves). There’s also a YouTube channel with all kinds of inspirational ideas for cooking over fire (like using a Billy can as an oven to roast and bake.

UK supplier for Firebox is https://www.the bushcraftstore.co.uk
US site is https://www.fireboxstove.com/
youtube channel is https://youtube.com/c/fireboxstove

Oh no, I’ve just convinced myself to by the full Firebox Freestyle kit in titanium. Don’t tell my husband!!

It’s ok when there’s 1.
It when you arrive and see 15 fire pits at full burn :headbang

ah! I forgot I have a Trangia 27 in the boot too! Though it’s only really the pans that get used. My “go to” cooker is a twin burner Coleman unleaded stove, 5 litres of petrol lasts most of the summer. But even that isn’t cheap now

if you’re over in Spain or France, bring your own purple meths as nothing here is as good. Depending on the type, It either burns feebly, or hotter but soots up your pans!

I have been looking at that as well and if I would need it for backpacking for two it would have been my choice. However we like to cook ribeye etc for four people and its a bit small. The fennek in comparison is heavy with 6 kg vs the firebox 1 kg While the price is similar for the two products.

ive had a bearlock installed by the fantastic chaps at theftstop , mechanical lock that locks gearlever in place , so on my dsg locks it in park . great service and fitted very quick as only ordered at dubbed out festival sunday , highly recommend

We’ve had one on our Beach for some time, highly recommend it.

Bought a Cadac Dual Power Pack with Quick Release and a 6 pack of gas canisters. Normally use a 2nd 907 cylinder with our Cadac when cooking outside but reading the do’s and don’ts for Camperjam they state that no spare gas bottles should be brought onto site and that only external stoves with small gas bottles (2.2kg) are permitted.
Decided to abide by the rules :)
