Which Bluetooth Module?

I'm toying with the idea of fitting a bluetooth module but am slightly confused as to which one I need to go for. There seem to be two main possibilities:

http://www.carsystems.pl/vw-bluetooth-k ... id886.html

and

http://www.carsystems.pl/vw-bluetooth-k ... id701.html

The module in the first link seems to have quite a few variations, at different prices, but I'm assuming the greatest letter at the end is the latest version. The second module seems to do everything the first one does, plus it has WiFi. It is also the same price, so is there any reason I should get the first over the second?

To add to the confusion, there is also this:

http://www.carsystems.pl/vw-combo-modul ... id804.html

which has Bluetooth and MDI for not that much more money. I'm assuming it's a combination of the first module with MDI added on. Any disadvantages to this one?

Hoping that someone knows more about these options than me!

Thanks.

What radio do you have in the van Mark?

Do you have a MFSW?

Hi Stu

I've just got the basic RCD 310. I do have a MFSW though.

Mark

OK - I wasn't sure about the hotspot one as I doubt I will ever use that facility. It just seemed to be an extra feature for the same price.

Is the Bluetooth/MDI one worth considering? I have got an old iPod which I could plug in. Just don't want to lose any Bluetooth features by going for it.

Thanks.
Mark

I honestly have no experience of that model. Again if you see a use for it then maybe, go for it otherwise keep it simple.

Yeah - I might just play it safe. It's probably the tried and tested one.

Are they fairly easy to fit? Getting the mic wire through the headlining to the interior light area I would guess is the trickiest bit but I'm hoping when I come to it, it won't be as difficult as I fear!

The interior light isn't a good place to put the mic. It's better above the drivers head. Too much background noise otherwise.

I think I'm too scared to cut a hole in the headlining though!

That last model is for the Golf centre arm rest/pocket I think. Won't fit in the Transporter.

For the additional ÂŁ100 or so, I would get it fitted by HazzyDayz for peace of mind.

What was meant to be an hours job took nearer three with mine. Get the MDI unit fitted at the same time. They also have the VCDS unit for any coding issues.

I have the MFSW, Kufatec B/T and MDI unit with the 310. Works fine for me - I don't use the Cali as a mobile office so not worried about call lists etc displayed on radio.

The one you link to Goldie is not a VW unit, it's the Kufatec Fiscon unit as I guess you already know.

In my opinion there is no reason to accept this second rate third party option when the OEM kit is equally well priced.

Yes Agree. Hazzydayz recommended the original VW unit, unfortunately the dealer had already fitted the Fiscon unit, which happens when most outsource the fitting of radio/satnavs to local specialist.

Hazzydayz discovered mine wasn't working correctly and negotiated a replacement/upgrade with Fiscon.

The basic tenet of my post was that it may be best left to the experts who do it every day. It looked pretty complex and it's not always plug and play. On the other hand if you like a challenge and feel confident fiddling with the electric of a ÂŁ40k plus vehicle go ahead.

With these kits many of the sellers offer now they are equally as Plug & Play as the Fiscon. You'll see they supply a wiring loom with a male & female quad lock connector so in the respect you simply unplug the quad lock from the back of the radio and plug the supplied loom in between.

Don't get me wrong I'm not advocating anyone not comfortable with such upgrades take any chances however it isn't as hard as some would have you believe.

Regarding the Fiscon, you are very right they are often used by 3rd party installers who want a quick in and out job with little regard for the quality/functionality of the equipment they install.

Thanks all! I'm fairly happy with the electrics. After all, it's only plugging connectors together. I've already installed the Aux Heater remote upgrade and I think that is possibly harder than the bluetooth install from that point of view.

The thing I'm not that comfortable with is the removing of trim etc. especially things that can go irreversibly wrong, such as cutting holes in the headlining. As Stu says, I'm a bit of a wuss! That's why I was thinking of putting the mic in the interior light area, as detailed in another thread I found somewhere. However, if it doesn't work there, I'm not so sure now.

Of course I would still have to find a friendly soul to do the coding for me.

Is there actually a specific place for it in the Cali then? I thought it just floated around somewhere in the centre console?

Mark

I'm near Kettering in Northants. Not far from Calikev!

Ok. I think there was someone up that way with VCDS otherwise I'm in Luton quite frequently if you wanted to meet up.

Yes, I vaguely remember someone up this way saying they had VCDS in another thread but can't remember (or find) who it was. I don't think it was Calikev.

If not, Luton would probably be doable. Thanks for the offer!

Mark

I am in kettering (mawsley, but near enough) and have vcds.

I am also a wimp and I have instslled the mic near the interior light, there is a bit of trim you can buy from vw - I have the part number somewhere.

Let me know if you need a hand- a friend of mine has borrowed my cable at the moment but I can grab it back.

(It appears to be fine in the interior light location, but I dont make many calls in the van - I mainly use it for streaming audio)

Certainly the Golf module is installed in the arm rest as I had one. I can't comment on the Cali installation.

Can you get away without cutting the headlining? My microphone clips over the door trim on the A-pillar.
