Yay, cheap car tax at last

I got my tax car tax renewal letter through the post today and was happy to see that is has now gone down to £258 per year instead of almost £600 due to the luxury car tax. My Cali is a 2019 model.
I'm in the same situation and relaxed this month - it has reduced to 180 for a California Ocean! I'm guessing yours is from April which is why its higher?

Mmmm not too sure. I’ll check. Why would it be higher?

I believe an Ocean should not be subject to the luxury car tax and should be taxed at the PLGV flat rate rate of £335, which goes up to £345 next month. £180 was the car flat rate in 2023-2024.

Hi. Mine is a December 2019 Ocean that I have put off road every winter because of that terrible luxury car tax applied. The road tax is 180 for March 2025-26. Not sure why yours is 268 John, unless it's increased from April?

Correct but in 2019 there was some changes and they got classed as cars. It was only for a short time. Benefit is that they are now cheaper to tax!

That’s quite a price increase from £180 to £258. Well I’m sure there is nothing I can do about it. Bette than paying £600….

I think the break-even is around 15 years.. so we have a while to go yet!

I’m rather looking forward to taxing our van in Feb 2026 for same reasons :)

I just purchased a MY20 T6 Ocean last week and was expecting the road tax to be around £600, but was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be £360.

I wonder why yours is £360 when mine is £258. Hello from another 2 tone from West Yorkshire by the way

My new wagon is £165 per year because it is a private heavy goods vehicle.

My 2017 Beach was £400+ for the first 5 years, Our Road Tax system does not make sense at all!

I see a brand new £40K+ electric car will cost £600+ at year two now!

Hi there to a fellow two-tone Yorkshire man :thumb

I'm not sure to be honest; assuming your profile pic is showing your Cali, it is in essence the same as mine, a T6 204 and so you'd think the road tax would cost the same.

My Cali is a very late T6, registered August 2020 so probably one of the last T6's to roll out of the factory before the T6.1 fully took over, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Yeah exactly the same i would say. Mine was registered in May 2019. I have no idea how car tax is calculated these days………

It literally makes NO bl@@dy sense at all . `My 2020 Coast is £600 inc the' 'luxury car tax". FFS!

Mine was around that figure before the luxury car tax 5 year thing expired. When I first got my Cali 2 years ago I was shocked at the cost of the car tax. I didn’t even know about the luxury car tax.

My 2024 Ocean 204 4m just taxed last month (after export then import) for £345. Hoping we’ve dodged the Luxury Car Tax!

Ours is due 30th April for 2019 Ocean , £190… at last down to what seems reasonable.
