Best WildCamping App

Hey guys,
seems like you have a great community here. Loving browsing the forum (even though I'm (just) a VW Caddy owner myself). Some day ... :)
I'm a software developer and currently thinking about building an app + website for nice spots to stay at. My goal is to make it open source (so no premium access stuff) and make offline and low bandwidth usage easy to handle. So the gathering of spots and the further improvement of the application would lie interely in the hands off the community.
I'm still in the planning stage of the project so I would highly appreciate any feedback on if you guys would find such a thing helpful, what are the things you are missing in the apps you are currently using etc.

Cheers

Looks good. Now £19.87 which then gives you the POI.
Bookmarked and something I may join when the need arises.
Thanks

Mike
OK joined www.wildcamping.co.uk today and very easy to use on the IPhone APP. Now need to see about loading the POI files into my Satnav. Will first try using carnet and if that fails I presume I can load onto an SD card. My Discover Media Plus has two slots for SD cards, one currently being used by the Satnav. Anyone used the other one for POI files? Bear in mind this is new to me

There are instructions in the downloads how to put camera database on rns. It is the same principle for any poi set.
As said earlier you can only have 1 personal poi file so need to ad new stuff to old file then load it as instructions.

Ok time for an update on using these.
Downloaded POI from wildcamping and sent to the Cali using carnet using and all working well.
Experimenting using other POI files.
Already using Carnet to send destinations and this feature works very well. So far so good.
When sending POI files I use the Mac but for destinations carnet phone app works well.

I've not been off a reservation yet. Think "she" want's a toilet solution in place before we go roaming wild.

..message ends...

I somehow managed to get these free POI integrated http://wildcamping.moonfruit.com/wild-camping-uk/4563550466 with my google maps and now I can see them on my phone. Not sure how good they will be but pretty handy to add to your google account.

Uploaded National Trust and English Heritage sites with no problem. They show on the sat nav but a bit of testing required to ensure they are accurate. Seem to be.

Just back from a two week trip, Germany-Austria-Italy-Switzerland-Belgium-UK. We used the park4night app, and found it to be brilliant. As a result, we only used campsites 4x nights, out of 16x away. The solar shower, also proved itself.

Here's a couple of park4night location pictures, more from the trip on my instagram page -

That's doubly good to hear as I like the look of that App and was intending to trial it in September and I've just picked up a solar shower for when we're off grid.

Great pictures.

Just researching places for an up coming break and a friend says they use the iOverlander app. Just about to download it anyone else out there use it? I believe he said that the more people did and added info the better it will be for users....I’m using French passions, ACSI and aires at the moment
.

I did in the past use wildcamping.moonfruit.com but its starting flagging up malicious software warnings for me so I made my own google map. It combines a few freely available online datasets into one including the moonfruit one above.

Its not been updated since Aug 2017 however (prior to my scotland trip) and I can't accept responsibility for any of the stops as I've not tried more than a handful of them.

The advantage is you can look on streetview to have a look ;)

Thought I'd add this here. Just seen this at a pub stop in harrogate. Why would you do this? Talk about taking the p1ss

One of the many reasons I threw the Britstops book in the bin and removed myself from their FB group. If you think people crying about 5 quid on EHU are tight, that lot take complaining and strange behaviour to a new level.

Absolutely right. Although I do cry about 5 quid hook ups

Interesting new venture.
Relationship with farmers and landowners to open up land for ‘wild’ camping.

These are not traditional camp sites, but fields and land where the land owner has granted permission for small scale paid overnight stays.

Will be interesting to see if this takes off.

Sounds similar to “Nearly Wild Camping”

Just looked up camp wild..... minimum stay 2 nights?? How ridiculous. Didn't bother reading any further.

Nearly wild camping, you have to join and pay membership even to browse the locations avaliable?

Looks like you have to use their Jeeps ..

Sorry I actually got mixed up with the Greener Camping Club. Which is less wild. But you can see the locations.
