** Important News: New Vehicle Registrations on Hold

I'm not sure I understand that logic. VW aren't paying the first years VED - I am.

It sounds like the vehicle can be taxed for 12M+ a few days anyway so it probably won't be an issue.

The logic is your first years tax will run out in 11 months + 3 days time, the cost to replace that missing month is £37.50. What you've paid for the first 11 months is irrelevant.

If you are able to add extra days you would probably come under the new April 18 rules which means you get put up a tax band, costing more than you've saved, the only person that can tell you if you can add extra days is the dealer as he's the one thats got to tax it.

We've had 2 new cars this year & neither the mazda or Lotus dealer were able to do anything other than exactly 6 or 12 months.

She’s just off the coast at Herne Bay. I reckon will be docking at about midday. :pinkbanana
That's only up the road from me, they could drop her off en route!

I'm counting down for the live chat to open so I can see if we are actually in the boat!

It's 2pm isn't it they open?!

They could, I guess they chose not to as it would have cost them money.

I've just spoken to the DVLA and it can be done.

Let's hope the VW dealers do the honourable thing and do this. ;)

Thats good - did you clarify though whether you end up with a March 2018 disc that is extended by 28 days at the end, or an April 2018 thats starting 3 days early.

I'm hoping to find out later. Dealer is under pressure to register it before the end of the month. (Presumably to avoid the April 2018 change)

As I understand it the registration can happen before VED is purchased. I expect they'll buy the VED at the last minute when dealer fit options are on and PDI is complete.

I'd have thought that this whole delay issue was about the new emission test procedure and that the now upgraded Cali's would be exempt the April VED hike.
Find out pretty soon I guess once VW advise the DVLA of the new spec.

They don't do that any more. Whole months only.

"At £800 or £1200 a year it starts to make a difference" - but its not that amount, thats the first year tax.
The renewal will be £140 + £310, so you are loosing out by £37.50.

Its up to you, but having spent £50k + thats peanuts for the benefit of having the van for the easter weekend.
I think that DVLA give you up to 7 days for free when registering a new vehicle. That means that you register in March, get a few days for free and pay for April onwards on the basis that it is a pre-April registration.

I drove my Cali away from the dealer fully taxed just before the end of last November, but only paid for 12 months tax from Dec 1.

Luke has just confirmed our Cali is/was also on Danube Highway. I asked how long it normally takes for vehicles to be released from Port. He said it can take up to 10 days!!!! But is normally much quicker than that. I guess if VW looking to get all the vehicles registered/taxed/delivered by end March they will have to move quicker than 10 days.

Ours was too! Hopefully they'll get the fix applied and transported to the dealers in less than 10 days.

I've got my fingers crossed for collection before Easter! :thumb

Looks like a ship full of California's, ours was on it as well,
Just had a spend up in the shop, and like everyone hoping for delivery before Easter.
Pressure is now on the dealers to do their bit!

I might have accidentally just gone on the shop and bought the car seat covers & the awning room...oops....

Don't you just hate it when that happens. :D

Well you guys seem to be having better luck than us! Our beautiful Cali is still at the port in Germany, and no-one can tell us when it will be shipped. We have been told that as our was at the port when the stop came through it is probably at the back of the compound and the vans in front of it need to move first! I really cant believe that that is correct and I can't tell you how upset we are. We have a loan car from VW but they cant find us a Van so we have had to cancel our Easter trip. I know others have had terrible experiences, but I just cant get over how unhelpful VW have been with us. I'm really glad for all of you that are seeing your Vans moving, I just wish ours would too!

What did you order, 'cos if its a manual they may have decided to build you a new DSG and therefore not shipped it..

I'm just wondering ... Are all vans on ships to UK with DSG transmission?

No its a DSG, and it was build week 49, feeling thoroughly fed up!

Even when it gets here it’ll still be on hold until we receive and agree to the illusive letter.
I wouldn’t worry too much.
As far as I’m aware no one has received their letter yet.

Just heard back from the dealer... He's expecting the bus next week!! He has niftily sidestepped my questions about the elusive letter/fix and the potential uplift in VED, but I'll nab him on those when he calls!

It looks like another boat load of Cali’s are en route to Sheeress. Just found out that mine (build week 1) is on a ship due in port tomorrow.

At least Mike is talking to you! So far he's ignoring my emails and not returning my phone calls - not very happy about it - this is the dealers chance to shine and win back a bit of faith. I would have to hope my van is on the same transporter as yours though.

I'm aiming for a really tight schedule - I've provisionally booked it in for wrapping on 28/29 March... :)
