Vango Airhub Hexaway (purchased from club shop;)) Love the space, great if you don't need an awning to sleep in and looks really cool when set-up :D One simple inflation point and up it goes!

Can you add an annexe to the Hexaway? Great set up.

We have tried drive away awnings but kept coming back to our Comfortz awning because it was quick and easy. The only thing we thought it was lacking was enough light, so have now gone for a Thule G2 Residence Room.

In your picture it looks as if you have installed a Velux window in the roof. That seems pretty ambitious.

It was installed by VW and they pinky swore that there would be no corrosion issues. They even gave me a direct email if there were any issues, it’s www.Ur aving a larf.Com

We love it. Not hard to set up and we use a kador strip and figure 8 with it. Yes to awning but can also be used with straps over the roof

Thanks for the tour of your set-up in Devon. Our SheltaPod has just arrived and we are really looking forward to using it.

Not that I am aware of. Had a quick look on the Vango site and couldn't see anything. The Airhub Hexaway is a great living space, but if you want additional sleeping it's not the right choice imo.

@Hearny have you used your Idris 2 yet? any thoughts as it looks like a good option for what we want.

Yes I’m currently in Austria and it’s good. It has taken a few pitches to get it right. I used a Kyham awning for 4 years so blowing things up seemed strange. There are 3 of us and we can get table and three chairs in. The area between the van and awning is larger than the kyham so you have to utilise it. By the way I bought mine on a JK 15% day and got it for about £330 ish if I remember

Cheers to everyone for their input and pics, after looking at too many to mention we decided to go for the Idris 2. Was tempted by the sheltapod and hexaway but hopefully made the right choice. And to make things even better leasiureoutlet.com has a massive sale on you're getting them at £300 instead of £550.
cheers folks

These are the last of the Idris as it's being discontinued hence the low clearance prices online. We attended the 2019 launch event a few weeks ago and Vango has some great new models coming out next year along with some new awning material.

As soon as we are allowed to disclose these new models we will post them on the forum.

Hi looking at your setup again and it looks awesome! Could I ask where you got the mat from? I’m about to order the hexhub to have at the end of the awning and this would look great at the end.
All the best

Hi we are a family of 4. I have thought about an awning but drying it out is a pain. There are alot of threads on here re travelling with little people. Car seats in the foot well , they fit great there. A cheap umbrella stroller slides under the seats. The best thing about having a Cali is bring down the roof and drive away whilst the campers are trying their best to get tents etc back in those silly little bags .

Yep, couldn’t agree more.

The mat was from http://www.theoutdoormattingcompany.co.uk/vw-transporter-matting.php
Although they are no longer doing the VW logo version due to issues with VW.
They now do them with a T5 or T6 logo.
He was recently at VanWest show and had a few VW ones left, but when they're gone - they're gone!
So you may be lucky if you ring them.

Newish members reading this thread shouldn't underestimate Chez's comment. At first it seems obvious that a drive away awning is the answer to the stresses of the first few nights away where there is never enough space, but having a drive away awning brings a whole set of other problems.

The beauty of my old T4 LWB High Top van was it was just big enough to just turn up, swivel the seats and you were sorted. But it was awkward as a daily driver. Normal Cali's are a bigger challenge, but the rewards from using JUST the van as intended are immense freedom.

We have the G3 residence room and a driveaway awning. We are considering the HexHub to add to the choices open to us.

We wouldn’t be without an additional space of some sort. We don’t have to put one up, or even take one or more of them away with us, but they are well used. In fine weather we can manage perfectly well without, but when wet, cold or windy they provide valuable extra space.

Off to the Costa Brava for 12 days this Wednesday. We will take our Vango Kela 3 for the kitchen and dining area.

Have used a Vango Cruz 2017 for the last 2 years, well built and easy to put up but too large/heavy for us now.

View attachment 34859 We use a Khyam 380 Motordome Classic Driveaway if we’re on the same site for a few days. We put the fridge out there, and all our cooking stuff just stays in the awning until we need it.

I see you’re in Aberdeen too - our awning survived some shocking weather last year up here! In fact I think this is the first time we didn’t have to put it up in a gale! ;)

Hi ive been looking at buying this awning, how easy would it be to put up as just one person? We have a big outdoor revolution airbeam and this needs at least two people to put up! TIA

We use the same Cruz model on trips of more than 3 nights + on site. Do sometimes look at new Cruz model that faces forward - but hey ho could end up changing model every year. :thumb

This is the Drive Away set up we use it’s a Vaude Drive Van.
Very lightweight well made easy to erect. It doesn’t use the Kador attachment system with which we had lots of leak problems. We just throw the elastic straps over the wind out cassette and attach to the wing mirror at the front, and at the tailgate end it’s attached to the awning rail on the passenger side.
We often use it free standing as well. Some great videos on YouTube. Can also be attached to the rear tailgate as per the videos so maybe of interest to people who have the Beach.
For short stays 1or 2 nights we like others use the wind out with front and side panels.

First trip out with our new Vango Pam, perfect size for us. Really impressed, it coped with Storm Miguel admirably. 2019-06-13 09.14.09.jpg

2 Thule side panels and working on something for the „front end“. Worked for us last trip and for the moment.
