I've just noticed this morning that 2 of my Cascavel alloy wheels are showing very early signs of the milky worm appearance. They are the Black and silver type.

The wheels are only 13 months old and have covered just 7500 miles.

I only ever clean them with soapy water.

Has anybody else had this and did you manage to get them replaced under warranty?

Hi i have noticed the same defect on minr and they are 18months old.

Was going to show the dealer and find out if covered under warranty.

Did you have any luck with the dealer/warranty?

Thanks

Paul

Just had 3 of my wheelS changed under warranty 2wks before the 3 year warranty due to finish with no problem from the dealer, apparently it’s quite a common fault especially if you you a car wash team to clean your vehicle as they use a commercial cleaner that penetrates the out clear lacquer.
I have never used a car wash on mine Cali so not sure why mine we’re effected

I had the same thing happen with my Mercedes SLK wheels..Had 3 replaced under warranty..Take the vehicle back to the dealer ASAP..

My wheels on my Merc were only ever washed by myself with love and care..It’s just one of the things that happens on Diamond machined wheels..Although I have Cascavels which I bought new 3 years ago and they are still perfect...Just the luck of the draw..

Diamond turned alloys always go like that sooner or later. Just take a look around any car park. Any damage to the lacquer layer will be the starting point for corrosion on the bare aluminium beneath. IMO even without any damage they are highly susceptible to corrosion. The diamond turning process creates a sharp edge where the turned surface meets the painted indents in the wheel. Applying lacquer to the wheel is supposed to provide a protective layer to prevent corrosion but the weak point will always be these sharp edges where it's impossible to get as thicker layer of lacquer as elsewhere. Over time the very thin protective lacquer layer on these sharp edges will fail. To make things even worse, I've also been told that these type of wheels can only be re-finnished twice before they are scrap. If possible diamond turned alloys are best avoided.

Frankly the best wheel VW does for the Transporter is IMO, the 17" Devonport. They are strong and well engineered with a painted and lacquered surface. The are cheap and plentiful, easily re-finished as many times as you like and don't have any sharp edges.

Be warned....If you have ANY damage whatsoever on your wheel other than the worming your claim will be rejected..Even the smallest mark and they will reject it..

On specifying my new Cali Ocean I made a deliberate choice of avoiding diamond turned wheels. I had them on two successive Mercedes cars and after 18 months the wheels looked rubbish even though I lavished a lot of TLC. REALLY irritating especially on my midlife crisis car a SL55 AMG.F71E5F94-3F75-4081-A7F6-D2A67BD3CE27.jpegS
