California beach leisure battery

Hi @john rensten -- you could get a parking heater retrofitted.

A few threads on the forum about that -- will cost you somewhere in the region of £1000-ish.

Sorry to hear that - now it's been pointed out I see that's ambiguous, and the whole naming convention is also terrible too ...

As above I bought my (otherwise spot-on spec) demo Beach without a heater knowing I could get one retrofitted for c. £1,000. There are several threads on it & mine was one of the first few T6s done by Exploria in Brighouse:

Looking at the Exploria website via the link provided above I noticed the 'ThermoCall TC4 Advanced' and had a look at the sticker on the door in our 2019 Beach.
Anyone installed on this on a Auxiliary heater for pre heating/defrosting and the occasional boost as a blow of warm air wake up on a frosty morning. I don't mind it being cold when sleeping in bed but want it warm when I need to get out of a slumber. Do I need to spend the £1000 on a parking heater?

Looks like the Thermo Call is meant to work with the ThermoTop 2000ST, a full parking heater. Looks like yours is the standard automatic coolant heater, which they can modify to be driver controlled.
Caravelle / Shuttle / Transporter - Secondary Heater 7 Day Timer
The majority of VW Caravelles & Shuttles are factory fitted with a secondary diesel heater as standard. We can add a 7 day timer to this heater, including a few modifications and alterations to the wiring loom. This allows programmable functions which enables the user to use the diesel heater as a secondary heater system, for a maximum of 2 hours at a time. This addition is great for those who want to:

  • Set the heater to come on half an hour before they go to work to warm and defrost the vehicle
  • Have a reliable heating system, capable of 2 hour stints for those odd chilly nights that you camp out in your van
The addition of this 7 day timer is good but not a patch on having a full Airtop 2000 kit fitted with the comparable 7 day timer or Thermo Call device(depending on requirements)

Pricing varies depending on application and requirements, but as a guide £500 + VAT

The difference between the two is that the coolant heater uses pumps to circulate the coolant and dashboard fans to heat the cabin, and therefor has higher battery usage than the parking heater, which just heats air, so gets hotter quicker with much lower battery usage. I have both, programable coolant heater factory installed and Webasto parking heater aftermarket. I use the coolant heater to preheat the motor to lower wear when cold, and the parking heater to heat the cabin at night.

Sadly it has always been an option on the beach, standard on the SE and Ocean. Yes the 12v pretty much runs the lights, and any other things you attach such as phones, fridges etc.

Heaters can be retrofitted relatively easily, I had mine done with a webasto. Some of the planar heaters are surprisingly cheap now too.

You will undoubtedly have the Webasto Coolant heater which can have a remote fitted relatively easily. It can then be used for a short time as a heater. However it runs from the engine battery powered so would be restricted to about 30 mins to stop you flattening the battery. Its designed really just to warm up the engine on a cold day.

If you have hookup though its easy to use something like the Kampa Cuboid, or an oil filled radiator from mains.
we have a 2019 Beach & have just had an independent guy fit us a webasto diesel heater.. £1200, best decision ever as we have just done the NC500 and wow was it cold up there at night.
