Hi,

I’m considering retrofitting the comfort dash gear surround (adding the cup holders and bottle cooler).

I know the usb/lighter gets rehoused. But what about the rear heater controls? Where do they go afterwards? Or does the comfort dash only come with the 3 zone climate control and there’s no longer a place for these?

Anyone know if there’s space inside the cubby to put these controls?

I’m almost certain the comfort dash was only available with the 3 zone controls. I doubt you could add the comfort dash gearstick surround to a standard dash.

Never seen that on here before but as you say, no mention of the rear heater controls.

With Climatronic 3 zone climate control, which was a required option with the comfort dash, there are no lower rear heater controls. The rear zone has it's own control panel in the back, and you can also control the rear remotely from the front by pressing "Rear" on the dash unit, which for a short time changes the dash display to show the controls for the rear unit, so there's no place for the Climatic semi-manual rear heater control. As @Amarillo has mentioned, you can get Climatronic 3 zone without the comfort dash, but you can't get the comfort dash without Climatronic.

great info! And one of the reasons I’m already starting to love this forum! Very knowledgable people on here.

so... could I find a suitable place to rehouse the manual controls. No where really looks suitable. Unless I could break them up. Two in the little cubby with new lighter and one in one of the blanking panels?

Or.. could they squeeze in the useless thin cubby separating the glove boxes.

Retro fits do do fitting at their premises, why not drop them a line and ask the question, I’m sure they’ll have the answer and know what is or is not possible

yes, I emailed them yesterday. They just confirmed they don’t have a solution for the rear heaters. This kit is for all T6s so I guess the rear heater buttons aren’t that common.

Van Haven in Dorset offer the comfort dash as a retrofit as well. Not sure about the criteria for compatibility though. I'm also looking at getting this done so will post when I get any further information. Mine is a Beach with standard heating controls and not Climatronic.

Can you guys post a picture of your dash with the rear heater controls?

The cigarette lighter is moved and accommodated in new console. So just the two dials to the left would need a new home.

Looks like they need to go just to the LH side of the USB, could someone 3D print a infill panel? Does anyone know if the cables would be long enough?

It will even be a big challenge to fit the regular A/C controls

I think it’s modular. So there are 3 kits. Upper dash (glove box and vents). Middle section (trim around steering wheel and middle cubbies). And gear surround/bottle holder.

I’d probably just do the gear surround and upper glovebox. Leaving small cubbies and existing air con controls unaffected.

Just out of interest, where does the hot / cold air come out from?
Do you mean the extra (optional?) rear heater? Same place as Climatronic, at the bottom of the C pillar where the useless cup holder and nearly inaccessable 12v socket are. No cooled air, just air going through an additional rear heat exchanger fed by engine coolant, like simple car heating with a manual control from room temperature to Max heat.

Retrofitted the dash yesterday. Took about 3 and a half hours. A lot of time was spent cutting away a section of the floor where it meets the gear console and fiddling with the air con hoses. They are really short and basically no slack (and no instructions so a lot of trial and error). Other than this. Other bits went on fairly easily.

I still need to cut a hole inside the cubby next to gear selector to rehouse rear heater controls. Although I’m wondering if I even need these given they don’t cool.

With the added open cubby between the glove boxes, that’s even better than the Comfort Dash!

Nice job, did you do it yourself?
