New T6.1 order delays

I write from the Basque Country. I ordered my Ocean last December and first date they confirmed me was for April. Later for June, then for October and yesterday the dealer told me that the new date is for March...
We didn't receive any compensationand nothing due to this delay and to be honest, I don't know what to do...

You would think that once your build week was confirmed that it was because they had the parts to build it! My build week is confirmed for next week, so I was hoping to receive my Ocean 8 weeks later, but I’m now doubting this after your experience. On a positive note I received a letter from VW today offering a free service pack deal or £500 plus Vat worth of free accessories!
mine went into production today apparently after ordering january , im very very happy but also totally aware it could be weeks waiting for something, kind of beaten down into submission now so whatever happens that is positive is a big step forward ......

I wonder what happens when the quality check at the end of the build fails because of some defective part. Do they postpone the build of another vehicle to cannibalise the part or is there a separate wait for defective part to be replaced? The latter might explain the long build times that some of you are seeing.

I'm in Ireland, bought a Coast in Dec last year and also confirmed April delivery. Then July. Only confirmed a week ago that the van is now fully finished waiting for the shipping to Ireland. The next boat is in October but I won't know if my van makes it to the boat until it's on the boat! Don't want my hope crashed again, so not expecting much at this point...

Surely they won’t want it sitting round waiting fir the next boat to Ireland. Good luck!

Arratsalde on! Who did you order from, and what spec?
I ordered my Ocean from VASA in April, they were pessimistic from the beginning, saying end of 2021. Updated last week to February '22. Mine is 150 DSG with only a couple of options.

They should be able to tell you why the van is taking 15 months to deliver. That's the longest wait I've heard of*. 12 months is quite usual.

204 engine, 4 motion, tow hook... are often the reason for a delay.

*Edit, I've just seen 20 months on another thread

Yes. I agree with you. Once it's finished, they need space for my Ocean...
In few days you'll enjoy your van!! Waiting to feel the same...

Kaixo!! I ordered it in Leioa. Mine is even "easier". It's 150 manual and also with few options. They are receiving Beach and Multivan or Caravelle but no Oceans... They are not able to give me a reason why they are so late or a real date.

Does anyone know if the VIN number appearing in the MyVolkswagen login means anything? If there is a VIN, perhaps there is a Van?

Did they tell you a build week?

It seems suspicious - sounds like the dealer made a mess of the order.. or the van was damaged in delivery, like happened to another poster here. It’s hard to explain 15 months, or 20 like the other thread.

No. That is the date which I am trying to get. At least three people from Leioa are waiting for the Oceans since November/December and all of us are for March. Nowadays the van is only an order. It has not been started the manufacturing.
This is one of the reasons that I am writing in this chat, because I would like to know if this is something "normal" or not. Thank you

It seems to be different in different countries. Normally in the U.K. order-delivery is I’m told 4-6 months. You can be lucky it seems, in these strange times, and get your new U.K. Beach in 5 months, or Ocean in 7 from order, but it’s more likely to be Oceans in 12 months here.

I understand they have a ‘just in time’ system, so no massive warehouse full of 2 months of parts, and if a boat gets stuck in Suez...

Every company does this nowadays. Normally the supply chain works perfectly, until....
We live near the DAF factory and they only have at a max a week ahead on parts for production.

Last thing I heard is a shortage of awnings (which are from Thule, assembled in Sweden, but probably de components are made in Asia)

As far as I know, my delivery date is still late Feb, so I guess they will all be on the same boat...

One thing is clear - there is no "normal". Some dealers have been able to get orders prioritised at VW and they were delivered months before ones placed much earlier. Others, like the one in Gibraltar, are taking 20 months...

To clarify, the new expected delivery date is October'21, but it'll depend on the shipment and we only get one boat to Ireland per month. VW isn't accepting any priority requests from dealers so they're as blind as I am. In my case, the factory sent the wrong information to the dealer. Initially, they said the Coast was fully finished and waiting for shipment in July and only few weeks ago they changed the message saying it was impacted by the semiconductor shortage and was never finished until the end of August. The dealer is as desperate as I am cause they're not getting any money in until I complete the transaction. Let's hope for a delivery in 2021 :-(

FYI, UK orders once got the confirmed build week,

Orders take around 2 weeks to be built. It then takes around 2-3 days to transport the order from the Factory to the Port of Exit in Emden Germany.

Orders can then be at the Port of Exit (Emden) up to 10 working days. It then takes around 2-3 days to ship to the UK port. It can then be up to 10 working days in the UK port. It then takes approximately 24-48 hours to deliver to the Van Centre.

After that, it can take approximately 24-48 hours to perform all the necessary checks and for the Van Centre to call to arrange the handover of the vehicle.

Wow, great posting. That's a very comprehensive and useful breakdown of the delivery chain.

But completely incorrect I’m afraid - mine went into build on 19th July and it’s still there! VW won’t provide an update to the dealer, they’ve told them it’ll be done when it’s done!

The information I have is that the building process could be stopped in different steps due to missing material. Without these stops, it's as you say. At least here and Spain but I suppose this is for all countries the same.

This is the experience I was hoping for earlier this year. The first part was true, a 2 week build exactly, subsequently arriving at Emden a day later. Then followed approximately a month waiting for the van to get onto a ship to Grimsby. This was was really frustrating as no tangible reason was given. It took 7 days to get to the van centre after arriving at port. The PDI at the van centre showed problems which took a total of approximately 5 weeks to sort out. So, its almost worse to be expectant once the van is built, than it is waiting for status 20 to arrive!

Monday was supposed to be the start of my build week but dealer cannot get any confirmation from the factory that it has actually been started on. He said updates are becoming very rare and they are left completely in the dark. all he can confirm is a build week of week 20 and that's it. Starting to find this all very shocking how poor the communication is between the two. 8 months in now and really wish I hadn't sold my T6 Ocean back in May and just stuck with that, especially after reading all the issues people seem to be having like faulty water tank sensors etc.

We are in a similar position. Ordered in January with an initial promise of an April/May delivery. This was then updated to an August delivery and, on this basis, we sold our T6 Ocean in May. Our vehicle has been in build since week 26. Despite many calls to our dealer we still have no clarity about when to expect our T6.1 Ocean 204 DSG 4Motion.

But why are dealers, in 2021, promising 4-8 month leadtimes? Were they ever that short, even before pandemics, shortages, Suez canal blockages? I'm fairly sure I was quoted 8 months when I first enquired about an Ocean in line 2018....

And - faulty water tank sensors: Are they different to those fitted to the T5, T6? I'm not concerned about parts failing on the 6.1. I *am* concerned about the higher throughput at the factory! Makes the chances of getting a 'Friday afternoon lemon' a bit higher....
