New T6.1 order delays

But why are dealers, in 2021, promising 4-8 month leadtimes? Were they ever that short, even before pandemics, shortages, Suez canal blockages? I'm fairly sure I was quoted 8 months when I first enquired about an Ocean in line 2018....
Hi Bob,
Well in my opinion they promise these (too) short and attractive lead-times to get people to sign a contract. Salesmen typically do anything to get sales, because their salary/bonus depends on it...
What happens after the signing, they don't really care about. They will most probably blame it on some kind of delay, shortage or whatever...;)

The parking heater has indeed its remote control that works at least from inside our house to the Cali which is 50meters away. Haven't tried a longer distance yet.

We didn't order the wireless charging because of the high price. We just use our cable instead, as you have to bring it anyway when you're camping somewhere and want to charge your phone. The UK option list is different from the EU-list and the option is still available in the most recent brochure. I thinkthe wireless charging option costs about 500eu.
WeConnect app suggests it can programme your parking heater...

When we placed our order, the sales guy was very clear the delivery time was way out - at least 12 months. Having said that we haven't got the car yet (May/June 22) so who knows if he was right or not..! But he certainly wasn't sugar coating the delivery issues.

When I was in sales (IT, not cars) you only got commission when the item was delivered and invoiced, so no real benefit to the sales guy to state earlier than likely delivery times. In fact, most customers will accept a realistic/long delivery time much better than an artificially shortened delivery date with subsequent disappointment when delivery slips.

We are in a similar position. Ordered in January with an initial promise of an April/May delivery.
That is non sense from the dealer. Jan 2021, we all knew there were big delays in most chip related industries, inc cars. Even my toy factory in china doubled the sourcing invoices as there were chip shortages. :-(
Still no PS5s in high street shelves, this will last well over 2022 as the chip leading time was already over 6 months before pandemic. The chip manufacturers are still running under 80% of their full capacity.

The chip filled electric car that we ordered just over 6 weeks ago was delivered today; Received various updates during the waiting period complete with user videos about the car.

VW need to stop blaming others for their failure to deliver!

Most likely built just in case. California’s are only built to order. I can now order a new id3 on short 8 week lead time on the basis there’s either one already in the production system of theres one sat in a compound already built.

Any other lucky peeps at status 38 and spending their spare time ship stalking?

Congratulations!!
Did it come with wireless charging out of interest?

Nope it didn’t, chat did confirm it was a MY22 and the app connect allows for lock/unlock which was disabled on MY21 but I’m not 100% which it is.

I’m now looking into getting the parts from south Africa as they have RHD with wireless charging point, just waiting to hear back from VW SA hopefully they are better than VW UK

Ooh that’s an interesting option - keep us posted?

Call with dealer yesterday, my week 37 build (3 weeks ago) is still status 20 and they have no idea when it will enter production.

Can anyone confirm whether things changing in the My Volkswagen login (VIN, access to user manuals, link to setup reconnect, rendering of the actual vehicle all appearing over a few days) correspond to the vehicle actually being built and on it's way? FYI in Switzerland we cannot see the status in the My Volkswagen login, only what I have described above...

I went on VW chat Saturday night to be told my week 36 build is on its way to the port, expected time there 15-20 days
I went on VW Chat today to find my Week 35 build is still 'in build' - they've no idea when it might be complete and out for delivery....

I know in the UK at least none of us bother with using 'My Volkswagen' because the California is delivered under the Commercial business and none of our vehicles can be tracked/managed using it - our vans just turn up out of nowhere without any warning (or never as it happens). I know that isn't the case elsewhere in Europe though.

What spec/options have you gone for? I must admit I was surprised that my build didn’t take longer as I’ve got the dreaded tow bar and tpms

Spec is attached to my posts as a signature... went for most of them!

Contacted VW chat Monday evening as didn’t get much in the way of a response from the dealer during the day…. Was informed my van is actually at the dealership! Now in a curious position where I’m waiting to see how long it will take them to tell me!

Not overly bothered to be honest, I expected to take a hit on customer service having benefitted from the DtD discount.

Just happy the van at least made it into the country in one piece!

Great news - I'm really pleased for you. Can you let me know when you ordered, and which Build Week you were allocated? Thanks!

Why should you expect a lower level of customer service when going through DtD? The only additional costs to the dealer is the small broker fee, much the same discounts or better are available going direct.
They should be pretty keen on getting the van to you so if they’re not on the ball you want to be asking yourself why.

Ahh, had to turn my phone landscape for some reason. That’s shocking, I can’t believe you’ve had to wait so long. I hope you get some good news soon
