I agree with you, inevitably when you put all your eggs in the one basket something goes tits up. If we are going to rely on materials from Countries like China and Russia we are going down the same slippery slope as what’s happening now with energy and oil.
We never learn from our previous mistakes. Even if in the short term it’s going to cost more we can’t carry on relying on other countries for our energy....

The Chinese also own a large share in our energy & utilities (although dated, below article gives you an idea of scale):

People in the UK find it hard enough to pay the recent increase without another one which is due in October. We don’t need our government to screw us any more we have OFGEM to do that for us.

Someone has to pay in the end. "You" are almost certainly paying via taxes etc. It's a bit like buying an EV to reduce pollution, yes it does at the point of use - the pollution is just moved somewhere else. Out of sight out if mind.

We travel to Spain most years before the pandemic and see massive areas of Solar panels out in the middle of nowhere. That may well be successful in Spain but little chance of working in Wales. The chance of a tidal lagoon in Swansea was turned down because of cost ( A billion Pounds) but when it came to wasting many £ billions on useless PPE that was ok. They talk about heat pumps but at the cost of over £20k few can actually afford to install them even with supposed Government grants. This is not going to be easy for anyone if our taxes are not spent more wisely...

I’ve encountered these arguments unsupported by evidence before, like the endlessly discussed and disproven trope that electric cars are more polluting over their entire lifetime including manufacture, hence my mention of disinformation. Instead of wasting time I just point to where it’s already being done.

In Spain and Germany’s case, this political decision has launched a new industry that provides tax paying jobs, and cities like Barcelona are raking in the taxes from VAT on the booming number of installations.

Don't believe everything you read in the media about " useless PPE ". A lot that was deemed unfit for Covid protection was relabeled for general cleaning duties, cleaning up the s**t and vomit in A&E etc. So they might have paid over the odds at the time, along with many other governments, but very little was wasted.

Too windy for the local windfarm all the wind turbines are static to protect the turbines and too cloudy for any meaningful output from solar panels.
Thank goodness for gas, coal and nuclear.

But VAT Income on installations is a 1 off and doesn’t replace recurring revenues from consumption of energy.

Anyway it was NHS procurement, you know the great NHS, that was supposed to ensure the procurement of PPE. They failed so the Government stepped in.

Not true. If you have goods for you made in China you will have an agent who would be allowed to inspect the goods. This clearly hadn’t happened. If factories were still making the goods then inspecting agents would also be allowed into the factory. The government didn’t even have samples sent for inspection. Only certain parts of China were in lockdown not the whole of China so there was absolutely no excuse for this costly ( to the UK taxpayers) cockup.

Yep.

That was a load of b@ll@cks - but this is an actual pre-production Buzz (apparently the California will be based on the long wheel base version).

However that 77Kwh battery is too small - once fully loaded in a Cali with 3 passengers potentially - you are going to be getting sub 170 miles per FULL charge I'd imagine. And seeing as you can only fast charge to 80% you will be looking at a lot of stops for a decent trip across Uk or Europe.

So possibly only 140 miles per fast charge... doesn't seem enough.

(Just seen the long wheel base version will have an option for a bigger battery so it might be fine)

I believe there's going to be an 110Kw/h version capable of doing 500Km on a full charge.

Last I read (can't find it now) was that the ID California is not expected until 2026 or 2027. I suppose by then we'll be looking at larger capacity batteries. Perhaps the much talked about solid state batteries, but who knows.
