Show us your "Two Tone" California

Hi Charles

You are more than welcome to make your next trip in Alfie to West Sussex, park in our drive, have dinner and glass of wine with myself and Jo, my Sister, and you can have "freedom of the house" rooting through my Cali cupboard and having whatever you wish. of course I will also give you the benefit of everything I know about the Cali.

You have bought a fine vehicle, Congratulations.

BTW, Alfie is named after the second son of Albert and Victoria (Albert was his predecessor), and a brave, courageous gentleman who was utterly P*ssed of having to surrender his well deserved naval career to take over the Duchy of Saxe-coburg.

Hello Jen,
sorry to be so slow coming back to you, we have had grandchildren staying and have taken some time to recover.
Thanks for your kind offer, we would love to meet and to ask a load of questions as it is becoming clearer that we do not have much of a clue.
As a thought, are you around on August 31? we have to take Alfie back to Eurovans in Crawley for an MOT and a few bits (rear wiper motor and a gas strut) and could perhaps come to you after they have finished.
Sadly, we will have to return that evening as we have booked our first campsite the following evening.
Please let me know if that works for you. If so could you let me have your contact deets? My mobile is 07771 684239.
all the best

hi Jen,
All is going well with Alfie. I noticed that there is a sender unit for autoroute toll peages still in situ behind the rear-view mirror. Do you want it back?
All the best
Charles

Nice that - did yours come with side rails? Want to get some for mine

No I bought the side rails separately and got my dealer to fit them.. They are the new 'octagonal' ones which are slimmer than the tubular ones. Provide a bit of protection and look good! They will need to cut the under carriage protection (plastic) to fit them.

Is yours wrapped?

Hi, no it’s a factory paint job. I don’t think they offer this combo anymore which is a shame as I really like it. That said I’m certain light it looks all black!

Not sure if this has been asked before, but how clean does the top white half of a two tone stay?

Love the look of the two tone, but I don't want to be out washing it everyday!

The crease line along the length of the van means that I generally only have to wash the bottom half weekly. Presumably it's how the aerodynamics work?
I normally wash the top half when the roof or windows are noticeably dirty.

Good

Great colour choice

I was initially taken aback at how bright it was, having tested our judgement only via small colour swatches and some cunning PhotoShop efforts by my daughter. Once we got it on location though, on a sunny day by the sea (per photo) I was happier. Bought the grey van as a cancelled order, and wanted a complementary colour that gave a natural-looking pairing, rather than appearing as if someone had been trying to 'bully' it into being a two-tone on the cheap using the wrong base colour! Most people seem to think it's worked!

No real issue. I’ve found black cars worse to keep looking clean than white cars!

Unless parked under trees, it will always be the lower half that looks dirty before the top half. Its also a myth that white vehicles look dirty more quickly, darker colours are worse.

Agree with above that it's the darker colour that looks dirty first. Mind you it's nothing compared to the gen6 wheels, they only need to see daylight to look dirty

Have to agree, my black Springfields only need a few miles to show brake dust. I love the silver ones, but weren't an option on a 6.1. I have toyed with having them repainted, but haven't convinced myself to pay £350ish, and wonder what they'd look like on an Ascot Grey Cali.
CGI wizards welcome to enlighten me!
