We were told the same at the weekend. There are other motor-homes that have the main door on the offside.

Don't really see what the problem is. On the sites I have been on the hard standing is for the Caravan/Motorhome and beside it the surface is either grass or gravel over soil and allows pegging out of guy ropes etc:.
Prefer gravel to mud, personally.
 
They let you go in frontwards or backwards as long as you are near peg with C&CC. I find they're pretty amiable. Some great sites in the network. Chatsworth is my favourite.
 
I have been a member of the C&MC for around 15 years and have used their european breakdown insurance and also their travel service to book ferries to France and Spain both from Ireland and England. I have always found them very professional and good Value for money. I can remember ringing up to add my son on as extra passenger to our group on our return journey from Spain a few years ago and being told that our Ferry had left Santandander the day before (we had been enjoying our holiday so much we lost track of the dates :happy) the lady from the Travel service transferred our booking to a Bilbao sailing that evening without any additional charge!!
Also have used their European travel brochures in conjunction with others like Alan Rogers to suss out many campsites and found them very informative.
 
Currently parked up on a C&MC pitch front n/s to peg! Wardens asked where my side door was and the site info/map says if you wish to park other than with offside to peg just check with warden. So no problems here. Glad I joined
 
When we had our 'Try Before You Buy' we stayed at The Minnows, near Tiverton. It's a private site which is affiliated to both the CMC and CCC, so you get discount for being a member of either Club. As we had booked late and the site was almost full we had been allocated a pitch between the site office and recycling area (not as awful as it sounds as it was a large pitch). We had driven in and started to set up when the warden came over and suggested we might want to set up across the pitch (rather than driving in or reversing in) to get a better view down the site when we were sitting out. A very friendly site and helpful wardens.
 
We use C&MC and Britstops we have found that combination has worked well, have had a good ferry prices booking through C&MC

We aren't members of the C&MC and this week we were charged £10 coming off at Tamworth, and £11 at the main toll plaza on the return journey. It's far too expensive but you do get the experience of going back in time to the 60s when you could drive on deserted motorways.

Ouch. I agree - too expensive. I always check traffic on other routes before I'll spend that sirt of money on an avoidable toll. I used the A5 yesterday which was fine.
 
Both! In our experience, and I'm sure there are exceptions, we have found that both clubs have sites of a consistently good standard. Wardens are generally friendly and helpful. On-line booking useful too. We have found the standard of private sites to be much more variable, some good, some really bad. If there's a choice between a club site and a non-club site, we always choose the club site unless there's a really good reason not to.
 
Both. Gives you plenty of sites to choose from, which one can reasonably assume to be of an acceptable standard. Other club benefits also useful, e.g. I found the C&MC insurance service offered the best value overall package for my Cali at my recent renewal.
 
OK - about to join the Camping and Caravanning Club. They offer rewards for member referrals. Might as well reward somone for their help on here. So the first person to like this post and PM me their C@CC membership number and gift preference (C&CC fleece - state size, £10 site voucher or £10 Camping in the Forest Voucher) gets it. The race is on :D.

Actually you have an idea there, why not start a 'Pass-it-on" thread each member recommends the next and so on...
 
There are a a lot of references to C club and C & C club.
I'm assuming the latter is what is now known as Caravan and Motorhome club but what is the C club?

Caravan and motorhome club - C&MC .... formerly known as Caravan club - CC
 
Caravaning club and Camping and caravaning club is what i´ve always thought.
Both about the same to me, they have really easy going cool wardens,Not.
 
Just finishing short tour and have to say all the wardens on the cc&c sites visited have been excellent. Like a McDonalds you know what to expect and I like the facilities.
 
We found the wardens at Ravenglass Camping and Caravan Club were excellent and very friendly and helpful.

With either club you are getting a clean and orderly site normally locked at night with strict no noise policies. If you want to sit outside with friends and a few drinks until the early hours then these probably aren’t the sites for you.

Have camped on the main campsite in Coniston and were kept awake most of the night. I complained to the middle aged culprits and in the morning found our tent partially collapsed and missing quite a few tent pegs. Three neighbouring families did thank me though.
 
We've just stayed on a caravan and motorhome club site in the North East for a long weekend where the warders obviously hadn't been on the proper course.

We arrived at 9.30pm and were let on site ( i had phoned earlier to say we had been held up)
No one checked with a ruler the distance I had parked from the peg.
There were signs up offering bats/ rackets & balls for children to play with in the play field.
Children were actually made welcome.


I won't name the site otherwise the Wardens will get into trouble:D
 
Times are changing....

I parked up a couple of weeks ago and put my usual sign on the back "No tools kept in this van overnight" and not one happy camper complained to the warden about the builders van on pitch 76 :shocked
 
Just got back from a week in the south west at a C&MC site. Pitched next to my parents in their caravan - their first time at a club site. On arrival my dad asked if he had to position his van in any particular way and they said “forwards, backwards or sideways in, we don’t mind” - I was surprised to say the least.
 
The other benefit of the CC, that I haven't seen made mention of, is that if you tow a trailer and are also a member of the RAC they will recover both vehicles and it doesn't have to be a caravan..... found this out to my cost when not a CC member and had two blowouts on my car trailer on the M25 - with std RAC cover they will only take your trailer to a place of safety, with CC membership they will recover both vehicles to your destination. The recovery company made me aware of this.
In addition we have used a couple of CC sites as well and had good experiences.
 
Hi, we have owned our 2009 T5 SE since the end of September, so still very much beginners.

We joined the Caravan and Motorhome Club on the same day we signed up here. Been going since 1897, so they know a thing or two about vannng it! Have stayed at one of their 'certified' sites in the New Forest, which was stone age dreadful, and one of their owned sites near Tintagel which was out of this world good - loo block, pitches and the clifftop view over the Atlantic - marvellous. See our posts on faceache. We intend to do Europe next spring, for which this forum is an amazing mine of information.

We boil a small stainless kettle with a folding handle, with the window open to let out the steam.
