Apart from making noise till 3am which is unacceptable.....what on earth is wrong in them having a Y reg van etc.....

On the water you can have a £M pound super yacht or a scruffy Dinghy...but it matters not a jot...!

We love CC sites. Can't resist a warm shower block that is spotless and top notch facilities. Haven't lost a nights sleep to rowdy neighbours yet so it works for us. Not been in the Cali yet but the Granvia was always welcomed without question.

I like cc sites for the same reason. Also when the sites are full they're still quiet as they all hide away in their caravans!
No problems with their wardens either, in fact a special mention to merrose farm in Cornwall who had the friendliest wardens we've ever met when we went there last year.
The worst warden was on a c&cc site in Dartmouth who was a complete a###, could've really fallen out with him!

As a relatively new member of the CC I have visited three sites so far this year. Every time I have found them to be stuffy and ran by officious people who border on being rude. If you are newly retired, value spotless toilets and showers above all else and love the rules (which are enforced with zeal), then they are fine.

I stayed at a CC near Brighton this weekend. There was a lovely play area but not a child in sight. What a dull place to stay and it cost £22 a night. Once long ago camping was fun and CCs were frequented by families on tight budgets who wanted to have a bit of fun and enjoy the outdoors.

We have mostly stayed in CC sites since we got the van and in some great locations. CC membership is well worth while and the wardens have all been fine. You know exactly what you get with CC sites and ... I like that ! It's a shame those wardens treated you like that and it's not a great advert for the CC!

Looks like the CC experience depends to a large extent on the wardens. I don't know what they get paid, but they have to live in their own caravan, get up early and finish late, do all the paperwork, clean the toilets, cut the grass, keep the place tidy, deal with head office and put up with all sorts of characters turning up at all times including while they are having a meal. No wonder they can be a bit of a pain sometimes!

Although I'm not generally one for rules and regulations I actually quite like them on campsites especially if they're enforced.
My pet hate on sites are people that don't respect other pitches, cutting across them to go to the shower block or as a shortcut to their own pitch.
Had a blazing row with a couple on a non club site last year who thought it was perfectly acceptable for their children to use our pitch as a playground. It put a bit of a dampener on the weekend.
Bet you wouldn't get that on a cc site!

I agree, Freeley; it's frustrating when people use your pitch as a short cut when there is absolutely no need to do so. I also like the rules at CC sites, knowing, for example, that dogs have to be kept on leads when on site unless in a designated dog walking area (and most CC sites do have one now), enables me to relax knowing that my own dogs are not going to be harassed by others who want to come and play (one of my girls is nervous of other dogs if they rush up to her, so loose dogs running around would really spoil her enjoyment and mine; on a couple of small non-club sites we have stayed on, the site owner's dogs were allowed free run of the site).

As others have said, I think it must depend very much on the wardens on site, as well as other people staying there at the time; it's never nice to have a negative experience on holiday though, whatever the reason.

If at a CC or a C&CC there is an attitude issue I would push the issue and complain to the club direct, such feedback will ensure the issue is know & they can address it. Both clubs have review areas on membership website for each campsite. The warden on the large sites have often more that 1 warden + contractors on our last stay coming in to do washroom cleaning.

I think many of us have differing needs and expectations from a campsite. We have used CCC sites a lot over the past few years, mainly because with young children you are generally guaranteed a good level of facilities in a good location with a decent level of safety. I imagine CC to be much the same.
We've encountered over zealous wardens and unruly children but in general our experience has been a positive one. Their rules can be seen as a bit OTT - such as no ball games (we've fallen foul of this when our kids were little), other than in designated areas (despite Granny Jen's rather amusing CC video), noise late at night etc. but on the whole I think they do try and preserve 'enjoyment' for all.

The rules would be unneeded if people applied common decency, sense and courtesy when camping - sadly many don't. Some wardens can be grumpy - they've probably earned the right! I've not met a bad one yet. I would be much worse. They have the patience of saints.

I suppose as a member for the last 33 years (1981??) ..I should be more patient with the club. I have never had a warden problem. I have never had a problem parking my caravans, motorhome and now camper on their sites.

However one thing a rather lengthy rule book does encourage is an attitude of "unofficial policeman" where the rules of camping become more important than camping itself and the joy and common-sense of camping becomes overtaken with censure against those who infringe "the rules".

Sadly I had that in January when I reached Edinburgh with Albert in a rather sorry state after 10 days of highland touring, covered in thick layers of mud and salt. Whilst bringing the said sorry vehicle up to road-legal standard with sponge and soapy water I did detect that I was being stared at by two horror-struck patrons aghast that I was infringing the rules by cleaning my unit on site.

Fortunately the warden placated them when they made known their profound displeasure and also checked with me that I was only keeping within sub-paragraph b which states "other than to make road legal".

Variable experiences with CC. Had one interesting run in when i refused to turn the van round the 'right' way according to their rules. It would have put my door into the prevailing wind and we didn't really want that. As it turned out if we reversed in we got the view and the bikes were at the back so less unsightly. It was bizarre, it was like the guy was a robot and just kept repeating that I had to have my awning on the other side, which would be fine if we were using the awning! We sort of gave up after that and went to non-CC sites.

The Camping & Caravan Club do a great book called "Your Big Sites Book". Lasts for 2 years which has every site they know of, including their own Club sites, arranged by OS map sheet.
So you can go to an area and look in the book to find a site that has as little or as many facilities as you want. We usually look for a loo & showers.
Found a lovely site not far from Chatsworth last August Bank Holiday. All the main sites in the area were full but this one had lots of room. Just above the Manifold Valley. Stunning views and a 1 mile walk to a pub for good food and excellent beer.
C&C Club also have a deal with the RAC. Join the RAC with the C&C membership and you get a discount, plus they will come and fix your vehicle on the site.

Saves a fortune if you use the M6 toll regularly. Also some good value deals to be had on their sites out of season. When I go to Norfolk next week I was looking to stay on a CL. Then, by accident, I looked at the white beach club site and it was cheaper than the surrounding CL's £11.40 per night.

I often travel alone and the C&CC club sites (ie the big ones) charge per person, so I like GrannyJen, I often pay less to stay on a lovely site with posh heated loo and showers than it costs me to stay on a 'certified location' (which occasionally are pub car parks).

I'm contemplating joining the CC this year, as their insurance quote is £32 cheaper than the C&CC price. (all the regular insurance names quoted here are twice the price). CC are willing to guarantee they'll beat any quote by £25 at the moment, but you have to be a member to accept their quote.

Depends where you like to camp. We like the CC a lot. Wacky practicals collapsible, non whistling kettle!
