This anti Lycra/cyclist lobby by the keyboard warriors would be hilarious if it wasn’t for the fact that we are talking about people’s lives. I am a motorist, cyclist ( road & offroad) and a walker. I’m going to use the term “ tossers “again as there are some motorists, cyclists and walkers whom I would call tossers on occasion. By far the most dangerous tossers are the motorists, because their actions kill and cause serious injury. During my working life I drove circa 50k miles per year and have seen road rage and dangerous driving that would petrify a lot of motorists on this forum. Now I’m retired I cycle circa 8/10k miles per year ( still drive 12k per year)
and have encountered many acts of road rage towards me as a cyclist, in the main these have been caused by the impatience of the motorists. There are so many Ronnie Pickerings out there, it’s funny when they have driven past closely shouting abuse & blasting their horns only to go round a bend and encounter a red light . The look on their face when you ride up alongside & confront them. I’m not proud of this but the red mist sets in when someone has deliberately tried to run you off the road .The thing is , vehicles kill, cycles don’t. There aren’t too many cycles on the road , there are far too many vehicles. In years to come, probably not in my lifetime, cities and towns will be taken over by pedestrians & cyclists

Just been to the chemist which was a 7 mile journey and I saw no less than 6 cyclist on a local A road in full cyclist gear . I know you are allowed to go and exercise but this is so irresponsible as if they had an accident it would take up vital resources.

Before any one says I'm anti cyclist, I am not as I am a cyclist too but I have only been cycling on cycle paths away from roads.

some cyclists seems to ignore the fact that when it comes to others walking, hobbling, wheeling prams, you are the car, you are the lorry, you are the reckless driver.

No point whingeing about all those horrible drivers, ask yourselves how do respect those to whom you are the driver.

Cyclist keep fit and healthy. Probability of them having to call an ambulance due to an accident is extremely low. Inactive people, who drive every where instead of walking or cycling are probably just as likely to call an ambulance due to having a heart attack. The goal is not to come into close contact. Out exercising on bike ticks this box. Walking around the streets close to your home if you live on a town brings you into closer contact.

Why ‘every’ cyclist? Also let me remind you that the ‘whinging’ was initiated by someone complaining about cyclists. Just a lot of people here trying to explain that this is just nasty and unhelpful. Badly done.

Vehicles (drivers) kill 5 people a day and injure countless others, cyclists kill one person a year on average, that’s why it makes the news when it happens, because it is so unusual.

We are probably in the worst crisis we have seen since WW2 and people have to abuse each other based on the amount of wheels driven.

By a factor of around 1900 to 1. 1870 people killed by drivers in 2019, 1 person killed by a cyclist. It’s not just one more than the other.
